Media Release - Eastern Domestic Violence Service (EDVOS) praises initial investment in family violence recommendations
EDVOS applauds the Victorian State Government commitment announced yesterday to invest $572 million in actioning the most urgent of the Victorian Royal Commission into Family Violence recommendations.
“This is a concrete demonstration by State Government that it is genuinely prioritising the safety of women and children, and ensuring the systems focusses on accountability of perpetrators” said EDVOS CEO, Jenny Jackson.

As the leading specialist family violence service in Melbourne’s east, EDVOS looks forward to additional funding that will increase capacity and improve their response to the ever-increasing number of referrals.
“On just one day earlier this month, EDVOS received almost 100 police reports of family violence incidents,” said Jenny.

“As well as the much needed funding for services such as EDVOS, we are very pleased to see additional resourcing for other critical service providers within the system such as police, courts and the legal sector.
EDVOS acknowledges that issues around power and control will not simply disappear without concerted effort.

Our organisation values the commitment to primary prevention and educational programs that aim to prevent violence from occurring and to also enable us to intervene before the violence escalates,” said Jenny.
EDVOS is encouraged by the resolve of the Government to respond through prioritised action, backed by real funding commitments.

“Through an integrated set of initiatives and significant resource allocation, the State Government has begun to deliver on its commitment to respond appropriately to the Royal Commission into Family Violence recommendations. They have set the wheels in motion to effect real, transformational change in the family violence sector and in the lives of those women and children currently and potentially affected,” said Jenny
EDVOS is a specialist and responsive family violence service providing a broad range of services to women and children in the eastern metropolitan region of Melbourne who have experienced and are responding to domestic or family violence.  The eastern region currently includes 1.03 million people and spans seven local government areas including Boroondara, Knox, Maroondah, Whitehorse, Monash, Manningham, and Yarra Ranges.
