Media Release: New funding for family violence response in Melbourne's east
12th September 2016
Eastern Domestic Violence Service (EDVOS) has received a $4.65 million funding boost to help deliver critical family violence support in Melbourne’s eastern metropolitan region.
Made possible by a Victorian Government announcement last week, the funding is part of a wider $87 million commitment to family violence services across the state, broadening support for women and children in need.
EDVOS CEO, Jenny Jackson says the extra resources will provide a significant, much needed boost to the capacity of specialist family violence services like EDVOS.
“EDVOS is delighted to receive this budget allocation and is encouraged to see the Victorian Government recognising the need to invest in specialist services, in light of the Royal Commission for Family Violence (RCFV) recommendations.”
The money will be used to expand family violence case management services and significantly increase the availability of flexible support packages.
“These extra resources will extend our case management capacity to deliver more integrated, individualised planning and support for those responding to family violence.
“The funding will also increase access to flexible support packages that provide immediate, practical assistance for those in need,” said Jenny.
“These rapid-response packages are tailored to specific family requirements and are focused on improving safety and wellbeing for all recipients.”
It is also crucial for the community to have access to specialist family violence services like EDVOS through other settings.
“We will use part of this funding to enable greater access to EDVOS through other service providers such as GPs, maternal child health centres, alcohol and drug services, hospitals, community and mental health services,” she said.
As with all EDVOS programs and services, access and support is available to those from all cultures and backgrounds responding to family violence in the region.
EDVOS is a child-focused and child safe organisation.
