National partner features Hop River Trail segment

Speaking of the Hop River: The national Rails-to-Trails Conservancy named Hop River State Park Trail as its trail of the month for January. The paved and stone-dust trail is part of the East Coast Greenway’s spine through Eastern Connecticut, stretching 12.5 miles between Hartford and Willimantic. Read more 

Call for proposals: Southeast Summit, October 1-3 

If you have expertise, insights, case studies, and more to share on advocating for greenways & trails, we welcome your presentation proposal for our first-ever Southeast Greenways & Trails Summit, taking place in Durham, NC, October 1-3. The Southeast Summit will bring together transportation planners, elected officials, trail and public health advocates, and others who are working to put the Southeast on the map as a great place for active bicycle and pedestrian transportation as well as recreation.

Deadline for submissions is April 7.

New coordinators hired to accelerate Greenway progress in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida 

Two veteran bike/pedestrian and greenway advocates are joining the East Coast Greenway Alliance staff this month to increase our focus on growing the Greenway in the Southeast. Brent Buice (far left) will serve as our South Carolina & Georgia Coordinator and Paul Haydt as Florida Coordinator. Read more

Lessons learned on first solo ride, Ocean City to Key West

Alex Siegel was ready to take his first long bike ride when he learned about the East Coast Greenway. Here he writes about setting out from his home in Ocean City, MD, and heading south. Along the way he saw coastal beauty, met challenges, and experienced the kindness of strangers. Last we heard, he's still riding, heading west for Texas and beyond when he left Key West. Read more
