Moran Iron Works Completes Components for Environmentally Friendly Alpine Power Plant in Gaylord, Michigan
Onaway, MI.  – Moran Iron Works (MIW) has completed the design, engineering, fabrication, and installation of two exhaust systems for Wolverine Power Cooperative (Wolverine).  The exhaust systems have been installed at Wolverine’s new Alpine Power Plant located in Elmira Township near Gaylord, Michigan.  The plant utilizes two General Electric Frame 7FA.05 turbines fueled by natural gas to generate over 430 megawatts of nameplate electricity.

MIW’s exhaust system design employs noise abatement guidelines and results in two of the quietest exhaust systems in use.  The systems required 700 tons of steel to construct.

Victor Ruppert, Senior Project Manager, lead the project for MIW.  Fabrication began late summer 2015 with first product delivery in January 2016 and completed delivery in April of 2016.  “The on time completion and delivery of this project has been a huge success," states Ruppert. "Our initial feedback is impressive. Our customer is very pleased with the sound abatement quality and design of the exhaust units tested”.

”Wolverine is excited that an integral component of the Alpine Power Plant was constructed by a prominent Northern Michigan company,” said Brian Bejcek, the Alpine Project Manager.  “Wolverine has enjoyed a long and successful relationship with MIW and this installation has again exceeded our expectations.”
