HELP AND INSTRUCTIONS
Prepare for historically high enrollment.
Preferences will be open in the EMS desktop client from June 14 to July 14. In early August, we will send tentative locations to departments. In mid-August, we will send final room assignments directly to faculty directly via email.
STEP 1: Enter your compliant schedule in my.harvard by July 14
Check times and meeting patterns for compliance with the FAS schedule. We will reach out to departments to share schedule compliance statuses before the EMS desktop client opens for preferences.
Important: Classes without compliant meeting times in my.harvard will not be assigned a classroom. The course balance tool can help you review courses for compliance.
STEP 2: Enter your requested room capacity by July 14
Correctly estimating room capacity is crucial this year
Classroom space is limited due to increased enrollment. It is more important than ever that departments accurately estimate and select correctly sized classrooms.
Important: Classes with 999 in the room cap will not be assigned a classroom.
STEP 3: Enter your classroom preferences and department-owned space preferences in EMS by July 14
Starting June 14, new courses and meeting times will sync into EMS each morning.
Indicate your course’s technology needs in the EMS desktop client by including the required room features. Please indicate if lecture capture is required and note if the course has been approved to allow simultaneous enrollment.
If department space requests are not added, course locations will be listed in the catalog as TBD.
If preferences are not added by July 14or if a course is created after the deadline, please contact the classrooms office to see if a classroom can be provided. These courses will receive rooms after all other courses have been assigned rooms.
Preferences are not room reservations. You are not guaranteed a room even if you add it to your preferences.
Help us diversify course offerings in the SEC beyond science and engineering courses.
FAS hopes to offer a wide range of course subjects in our Allston classrooms. We will manage 6 different classroom schedules in the SEC. Each space offers unique technology and room configurations that better support the teaching needs of our community.
Courses meeting in the SEC will meet on a different academic schedule offset 45 minutes from the Cambridge schedule.
