INTERNET SAFETY AND CYBERBULLYING PRESENTATION AT OUR PTA MEETING TOMORROW NIGHT AT 7:00PM
Please join us TOMORROW NIGHT at 7:00PM for a VERY IMPORTANT PRESENTATION. Our speaker will be Alicia Clarke from the FCPS Office of Student Safety and Wellness. Her topic will be Internet Safety and Cyberbullying. You don't want to miss this one. We had this topic at a PTA meeting last year and everyone who attended was grateful for the information. It was truly eye-opening, to say the very least. Parents need to be aware of the dangers out there and have the tools they need to be ready and able to positively support their students. Even if your child is in Kindergarten, it's NEVER too early to learn how to keep your kids safe in the online world.

Tea and cookies will be served and childcare will be provided for school-aged children.
HALLOWEEN FUN NIGHT PIZZA AND VOLUNTEERS!
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered for Halloween Fun Night so far. There are many slots left, PARTICULARLY FOR ADULT VOLUNTEERS! Please consider signing up for a shift. Remember that if everyone volunteers for a shift, then we will all have a fun and successful event! We are also looking for NUT-FREE baked goods for the Cake Walk.

Here is the sign up link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0b44a8a62da13-halloween

Don’t forget to pre-order your pizza for Halloween Fun Night! The sixth grade will have limited pies available to sell that evening, so make sure you have pizza by ordering ahead! Place your order on line at:  https://www.pay4schoolstuff.com/, or pick up a form in the front office and drop it in the PTA mailbox. All orders need to be in by Wednesday, October 26 at 4:00pm.

Questions? E-mail Ciaran Lusick

PAPER TOWELS NEEDED!
Once again, our school is in need of paper towels to clean the cafeteria tables. Please send some rolls in with your child and drop them off in the office.  In the past, families have just picked up an extra package while shopping at Costco or another store. Alternatively, you can go on Amazon, via our link, and order the towels to be delivered directly to the school.   Better yet, you can make it a recurring monthly order so that the school is always stocked!

CORPORATE MATCHING
Many of your employers will match your non-profit donations dollar for dollar. From now through November 15, anyone who submits a corporate matching donation will be entered into a drawing for a free $50 Coldstone gift card! Please note that we have extended the deadline for the contest to allow more people to participate.

If you haven't joined or donated yet,  or in case you misplaced your Membership Flyer, here it is. You can also join and donate by going to https://www.pay4schoolstuff.com/

Questions? Contact Melanie Nunez or Jodie Kim, our Membership Committee.
INTERNATIONAL DAY IS ON
NOVEMBER 3

International Day is right around the corner. Forms and information were sent home in last week's Tuesday Folders. This is a wonderful event where Freedom Hill celebrates its diversity with a parade where children dress in the attire of their culture and students get to sample food from all over the world.

Please consider donating a PEANUT-FREE dish that celebrates your culture. The committee also needs volunteers to help set up, clean up, and serve food. Sign up here. For more information, here is the flyer about the Luncheon. Here is the flyer about Food Guidelines. And here is the form you can use to label your contribution.

Questions? E-mail Christy Erwin

Would your student like to represent his or her country in the parade? There is still time to sign up! Here is the flyer about the Parade.

Questions? E-mail Yelena Pedan or Gigi Khonyongwa-Fernandez

SPELLING BEE
Information about the Freedom Hill Spelling Bee will go out in tomorrow's Tuesday folders. Teachers will hold classroom Spelling Bees the first week of December. Winners will compete in a school-wide Spelling Bee at a date TBD.

FAIRFAX COUNTY MEALS TAX
In the November 8 General Election, Fairfax County Voters will be asked to vote YES or NO on a meals tax question. The question asks voters to allow the Board of Supervisors to impose a 4 percent meals tax on certain prepared foods, which would be paid by residents, commuters and tourists. If the majority of voters approve the meals tax, the Board of Supervisors would dedicate the revenues to two purposes. First, 70% of the net revenues would be dedicated to Fairfax County Public Schools. Second, 30% of the net revenues would be dedicated to County services, capital improvements and property tax relief. If approved by voters, the meals tax is estimated to generate approximately $99 million in the first year - with 28% of that amount coming from non-county residents.

Please help us to:
* Keep the best teachers
* Reduce class sizes
* Preserve school programs like foreign language            immersion, music, and sports
* Invest in our parks and repair our playgrounds
* Expand library hours and services
* Invest in public health and public safety
* Achieve property tax relief

A few pennies will go a long way to improve and protect our quality of life.

Join us and vote YES on November 8.
