The 21st Annual Texas Butterfly Festival and NABA Biennial Members’ Meeting kicks off this Saturday!


We look forward to seeing you at all of our scheduled events and activities.

Please visit the SCHEDULE page on the TBF website for more details. The schedule of events is complete, and we do not expect any changes at this time.  

Packet pick up for registrants will take place at the Hampton Inn & Suites, Mission, Texas, from 12 – 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 29. No packets will be available prior to that date. or at the.  If you are arriving Sunday, your packet will be held for you at the National Butterfly Center.

All registrants are strongly encouraged to attend the Welcome Reception on Saturday evening, where important information and any last-minute changes will be announced. 

PLEASE NOTE: There will be NO FOOD OR BEVERAGES served at the Welcome Reception.

Workshops start at 8 a.m. on Sunday and Monday at the National Butterfly Center, which will open at 7:30 a.m. for festival/meeting registrants. Workshops will last one hour, so participants may find their field trip leader and depart at 9:15 - 9:30 a.m. Please be prompt, in order to receive special instructions or directions from your trip leader, as each will determine the day's itinerary. 

TUESDAY there are no workshops, and field trips depart at 8:30 a.m.

WEDNESDAY everyone is invited to participate in the NABA Butterfly Count, which will begin at the NBC, but include areas throughout the “Bentsen Count Circle.”

SUNDAY'S WORKSHOPS:

Nature Photography with Luciano, in the Visitor's Pavilion: You see his photos on Facebook and in print... Here's your chance to learn practical tips and best practices for perfecting your camera work in the field and post-production. Bring your camera to class!

iNaturalist with Javi Gonzalez, in the Outdoor Classroom: Get familiar with this easy-to-use app that is empowering citizen scientists to document observations and share information from the field. Bring you phone or iPad to class.

A Course in Caterpillars with Cat Traylor, under the Monarch Palapa: Let Cat show you how to search for and identify caterpillars, wherever you may roam. Close focus binoculars and magnifying glasses will be provided for use. 

Build your Best Butterfly Garden with Allen Williams, near the Butterfly Promenade: Allen is an expert gardener with a talent for making contrived environments appear all-natural. He's responsible for many of the most beautiful and productive landscapes in the the Rio Grande Valley, and is here to show you how to improve your large or small, home or community garden, too.
