In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. All power to him forever! Amen. - 1 Peter 5:10-11
We live in the same world that Jesus came into - a broken, sin-riddled world governed by men, often well intention-ed, but misled. He established His authority on a path often traveled by us all. I start with a sense of blessing. All is right in my world (Palm Sunday - triumphal entry) and many victories over the next few days, but the presence of sin in me and often around me begins to prevail. The world is "creeping in" and I begin to react. Someone cuts me off in traffic or speaks a harsh word, or other confrontation, and I jump right in. Then comes conviction, shame, fear, and pain. And I am in the world again, and lost to my sin.
But my hope is in Jesus, my savior, my Lord. He came into this world to conquer sin and death, and through Him I am found. My sin perished on the cross and I am resurrected to life in Him "by means of Christ Jesus".
I do not presume to compare even the most extreme cases of my sufferings with the passion of Christ but rather I praise Him whenever I stumble, for after my time of suffering it is Christ who is manifested when I am restored, supported, and strengthened, as the Scripture promises. The Gospel message is repeated every time we look to Christ for forgiveness and restoration, for he is risen!
