Fi2W Launches Investigative Journalism Unit

Fi2W Investigative Research Fellow Stephanie Rodriguez (left) will be mentored by Peabody Award-winning journalist Matt Katz (right).

A tidal wave of misinformation and disinformation is sweeping over immigrant communities in the U.S. Our newly created investigative journalism unit will take a deep dive into deceptive and misleading messages aimed at immigrants and the systems that support the spread of incorrect and malicious information.

We’ve just named our first Investigative Research Fellowship.   Stephanie Rodriguez is a writer, producer, and nonprofit consultant. She supports creative storytelling endeavors and contributes to vision-building for editorial, film, and podcasting mediums for clients like Google, NPR, and LWC Studios. Most recently, she served as editor for Islas: A Celebration of Tropical Cooking (Chronicle Books, summer 2023), a culinary exploration through recipes, ancestral cooking techniques, and the personal lives of tropical islanders.

Stephanie is being mentored by Peabody Award-winning investigative journalist and reporter on criminal justice for WNYC, Matt Katz. Matt previously wrote for The Philadelphia Inquirer, where he covered former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. His biography of Christie, "American Governor: Chris Christie's Bridge to Redemption," was published by Simon & Schuster in 2016.

Feet in 2 Worlds focuses on the rise of misinformation and disinformation directed at immigrants in a variety of ways.  At the start of the pandemic we helped found Conecta Arizona, a news service that provides accurate information about Covid and a wide range of other topics to Spanish-speakers in Arizona and Sonora. Mexico.  We’ve also reported on misinformation in our podcast A Better Life?

Over the past 17 years Feet in 2 Worlds has supported hundreds of journalists through fellowships and workshops, and with financial backing.  The Feet in 2 Worlds network includes reporters and editors who work at public radio stations, online news sites, podcasts, and newspapers.

Together, we’re making American journalism more reflective of the diverse communities that we serve. Feet in 2 Worlds produces award-winning podcasts, radio stories and digital news articles. Our work has significant and lasting impact on the careers of the journalists we work with.

None of this would be possible without the support of people like you.
