DETAILS ON OUR UPCOMING TRAINING CLASSES
CTA is pleased to announce our upcoming training schedule. All volunteers, regardless of experience level, must attend training. Here is our class schedule as of now.
BASIC - Everyone is invited to Basic training. COURSE CONTENT: This class consists of an introduction to CTA and a review of Federal and New York State tax rules with special emphasis on the low-income individual. Additionally, we will review interviewing techniques. THIS CLASS IS MANDATORY. This class will be given via ZOOM on Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 9am to 5pm. A lunch break is scheduled from 12 noon to 1pm.
COMPUTER CLASS - This class will be given via ZOOM on Saturday, February 4, 2023, from 9am to 12noon. We will prepare a tax return using our tax software. THIS CLASS IS MANDATORY.
VOLUNTEER FORUM - This forum is a chance for you to ask us about anything CTA: questions on training, our materials, the virtual tax return process, your responsibilities, etc. It is also a way for us to get to know you and to help you navigate through this upcoming season. This meeting will be given via ZOOM on Sunday, February 5, 2023, from 2pm to 4pm. THIS MEETING IS NOT MANDATORY.
VOLUNTEER APPLICATION
All volunteers must fill out our online application to volunteer for the 2023 tax season. Once registered, we will send you our class materials and ZOOM registration on or about January 16, 2023.
If you have already filled out our 2023 volunteer application, there is no need for you to do so again. You will receive these materials. THE RETURN OF OUR STOREFRONTS?
Pre-COVID, CTA operated from several storefront locations throughout the city. These community donated venues allowed us to provide face to face tax preparation. It helped us meet our clientele and the storefront setting provided immediate feedback to our volunteers. With the cloud of this pandemic being lifted for the moment, CTA has heard from our storefront partners about returning to their locations.
As of the date of this newsletter, we have tentative commitments from five separate locations: three located in Manhattan and one each in Brooklyn and Queens. As we get closer to the starting date of the season a clearer picture of these storefront locations and a schedule will be available. As of now CTA respectfully asks you keep an open mind and consider volunteering your time at one of these locations. Remote preparation (Virtual tax preparation) will be available too. More information about these storefronts will be given in the next issue of this newsletter. Thank you.
CTA CALENDAR – NEXT BOARD MEETING
The next meeting of the CTA board is scheduled for Monday, December 12, 2022, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. The meeting will be held remotely with participants accessing a call-in code.
