Community Tax Aid NYC - Storefront Accountant - June 2022

PRELIMINARY RESULTS

With CTA navigating through the tax season for the second year under COVID, a new normal is beginning to emerge. Both volunteers and taxpayers have accepted the virtual method of preparing returns. Training classes held via ZOOM meetings report over 100 attendees. Even the turnaround time for preparing a return, from start to finish, has shown an improvement from year to year. While the face-to-face way of conducting tax work is the best, the virtual procedures developed last year by our committee have worked. This is also proved by the results of our season just ended. Here is a preliminary list of taxpayers served as of the date of this newsletter.

CERTIFICATES

Volunteer and CPE certificates have been prepared and issued to those requesting them. If you would like a certificate reach out to us at generalinfo@ctanyc.org. Please note that the hours reported on the certificates are based on the electronic timesheets you submitted to us throughout the season.

ANNUAL MEETING NOTICE

CTA’s upcoming annual meeting serves two purposes: to review the season just past and to elect the Board for the next fiscal year. All volunteers are invited to attend. This is a great way for new volunteers to know learn more about what CTA does.

CTA’s nominating committee, as stated in the Bylaws, has the responsibility of suggesting interested individuals for the next Board. This committee has come up with these 14 names:

Rob Barna
Ira Bowles
Tomer Chen
Annie Fernandez
Emil Gomez
Trenise Patterson
Zaw Min Thien
Nishtha Dwivedi
James K Schiller
Tamara Sokolowsky
Steven Young
Dan Zuk
Keisha White
Kristal Lohr

The Bylaws also provides for interested individuals not listed above to be considered for the Board. To do so, this person must be recommended by at least three members. Proposals for individuals not listed above must be received in writing by CTA’s Secretary not later than 2 days prior to the annual meeting. Keisha White is the current secretary. You can email your selection to generalinfo@ctanyc.org
