CTA VISITS NEW YORK UNIVERSITY
On Tuesday, September 3, CTA started its recruiting drive on a positive note. Tamara Lopez-Jimenez and Emil Gomez, both members of the board, visited NYU’s Service Fair, a chance to meet students who would like to volunteer. Representatives from many service-oriented companies in addition to CTA attended this event. According to Chrissy Beluk, Program Administrator for NYU Service, more than 1,300 students visited the Kimmel Center for University Life, the venue of this event. CTA added 80 interested students to its mailing list and at least two dozen more took our recruiting materials. By all measures this event was a success for everyone involved. NYU has extended its help by having us list our organization on its social media site, a task that CTA will do. We take this opportunity to thank Chrissy and her staff who made us feel welcome on our trip back to school.
TAX SEASON STATISTICS
After the end of every tax season, CTA compiles statistics on how our season went. It gives us an idea on how we can plan our next season. Here are some stats that we have.
The 2019 tax season (primarily for the preparation of tax year 2018 returns) shows CTA preparing 1,177 tax returns. This number includes both Federal and state tax returns. The results are from CTA’s nine storefront locations. It also includes results from our One Day Events. 102 volunteers manned these locations. This number includes some volunteers who staffed more than one location. In terms of volunteer hours, 2,297.50 hours were expended to prepare these returns. CTA would like to extend a sincere thank you. For those of you who were with us last season please know that your efforts really made a difference in the lives of those New Yorkers who needed our help. In our own way we have made these persons lives a little bit less stressful.
While we know how we did, how did the rest of the taxpaying public do? This question can be answered and the starting point is the IRS website (for Federal tax returns, of course). According to its site, the IRS compiles statistics at three points during the year: from the start of tax season through late May, from June to mid-July and from mid-July through mid-November. The results compiled over time, for example, may predict the timing of when funding, in the form of payments from taxpayers, can be anticipated. Here are some selected statistics from the IRS for tax years 2018 and 2017. The period covered is from the start of tax season through mid-May (2018).

CTA COMMITTEES NEED YOUR SKILLS
We are all multi-talented and have much more to give than just at tax time. The CTA Board needs your help with our seasonal work. Not only will you help us, you will also have a chance to develop your own skills in other areas. The committees are as follows:

Publicity: Recruitment for current volunteers via our newsletter: write articles, solicit articles, and prepare the Storefront Accountant, contact other committees to assess their publicity needs.
Fund Raising: Grant investigation and preparation, publicize need for funds, solicit donations directly.
Training: Research possible training topics, prepare training materials, secure trainers, prepare and reproduce training materials.
Phone Messages: Retrieve messages from voice mail answering service and respond or redirect to someone who will know the answer.
Technology: Maintain and update the CTA website.
Storefront Administration: Contact and verify storefronts, ensure staffing, determine equipment and supply needs, organize existing equipment and supplies, deliver to storefronts.
If you are interested in contributing to any of the committees listed above send an email to generalinfo@communitytaxaidnyc.org or call us at 646 200-5080
