Interested in learning more information about the Alluring Alpha Mu chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.? Join the CBU Honors Program, Black Student Association, and Student Life on Friday, September 14 at 6:30 p.m. for a screening and discussion of Tell Them We Are Rising in Spain Auditorium. This important film provides insight into to the African American experience in our country and the history and importance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Watch the trailer here, and if you want a little more prep, check out this TEDx Talk.This event is part of Student Life’s weekend programming initiative that provides all CBU students with something fun and beneficial to do every Friday and Saturday. Lady Buc outside hitter Emma Lenoir (Early Childhood ’21) was named by the Gulf South Conference as its Volleyball Player of the Week for the second straight week, averaging 4.3 kills and 2.4 digs per set for the week. She and middle blocker Miaya Smith (Unspecified Science ’22) were named to the All-Tournament Team in the Pittsburg State Invitational. Smith hit .341 while averaging 3.3 kills, 0.8 digs, 0.6 blocks and 0.3 aces per set.
Lady Buc midfielder Sinead Tierney (Biology '19) was named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week after she led CBU to a win and a tie in the first week of the season.Tierney scored both goals in CBU's 2-2 tie at Drury, and she followed by scoring the only goal in CBU's 1-0 win at Missouri S&T.

Elizabeth Romagni joined the CBU team on August 27 to serve as our new Director of Financial Aid. Elizabeth comes to CBU from Southwest Tennessee Community College, where she was also Director of Financial Aid.

September of Service: Better & Better

September of Service volunteers, you just get better and better! This week almost 100 enthusiastic volunteers created greeting cards at Lisieux Community, organized the Catholic Charities clothes closet, cleaned the classrooms and offices of DeNeuville Learning Center, packed moving boxes at Memphis Child Advocacy Center, prepped and painted walls for Paint Memphis, and helped socialize dogs and cats at Sunny Meadows Save Haven for Pets. If you want to join in the fun and help your community, go to to sign up for one of our upcoming events. Below are some where we need the most help. We'll be adding four more dates so be sure to check back.
  • Monday, September 10, 2:15-6:20, gardening with Memphis Tilth at the St. Jude Garden (8 spots left)
  • Tuesday, September 11, 2:15-6:20 p.m. across from CBU cleaning up the Spanish American Memorial Park with Volunteer Memphis (16 spots left)
  • Wednesday, September 12, 12:15-3:50 p.m. cleaning coolers used by MIFA’s Meals on Wheels program (9 spots left).
  • Monday, September 17, 12:15-4:20 p.m. at Meritan, cleaning up the grounds at a senior citizen's home (8 spots left).

Koinonia, a  Greek word meaning "Community," is a peer-led, peer-planned, and peer-directed retreat that will be a wonderful experience open to all of our students. Join us for a stress free weekend as we discover ourselves, God, and others. The retreat will take place at St. Columba Retreat Center on November 2-4. Spots are filling up quickly! FOOD RECOVERY NETWORK: Interested in how you can help give food to those in need? Join Campus Ministry this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in recovering leftover food from the dining services here on campus and repurposing it to those that need it in our Memphis community. We will start by meeting in the department of Campus Ministry at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 13.

CBU FOOD PANTRY: The CBU Food Pantry is open and available for anyone in our CBU community and provides nonperishable food items, spices, and limited hygiene products. If you or someone you know is in need of food, please fill out the form at, and we will set up a time that works for you to pick up the food. The CBU Food Pantry is located in the Campus Ministry Office in the Thomas Center.

PB&J SERVICE WITH CAMPUS MINISTRY: Want to give back to your community? Have around an hour to give? Join Campus Ministry in making peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches for St. Mary's weekly meal kitchen! Meet in Alfonso Dining Hall every Wednesday from 3:30 until 4:00 p.m.
ADORATION AND RECONCILIATION: Eucharistic Adoration will be held every Wednesday from 2:00-3:00pm in the St. Joseph Chapel located in Barry Hall. Fr. Bruce Cinquegrani will also be available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Please stop by even for a couple of minutes to say a quick prayer moment and a quiet moment in your day.

Attention Seniors & Graduate Students!

IF YOU PLAN TO GRADUATE DURING THE 2018-19 ACADEMIC YEAR, it is very important that you complete a Graduation Application, which is located inside of BannerWeb under "Student Services – Student Records – Apply to Graduate." Application deadlines are as follows:
  • December 2018 Graduates: September 15, 2018
    Degrees cannot be conferred without a Graduation Application and the appropriate approvals.  If you have not already done so, please file your intent immediately!
  • May 2019 and August 2019 Graduates: December 1, 2018
The $130 graduation fee is applied at the beginning of the semester in which graduation is anticipated. This application fee is applicable for one year. After this time, students who have not completed their degree requirements will be removed from the graduation list and must reapply for graduation, as well as repay the graduation fee. Those filing after the stated deadlines will be assessed a non-refundable late fee of $50.00.

The 2018 Mid-South Coalition for Minority Health International Research Training (MHIRT) Symposium is COMING UP SOON! Plan to be there on Saturday, September 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Rhodes College in Buckman Hall 110. Students who participated in the Summer 2018 projects will present the results from their international research experiences in Brazil, Dominican Republic, Peru, South Africa, and Uganda. A light breakfast will be available starting at 8:30am. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in the summer projects for 2019 to meet with students, learn more about the program, and find out how they can qualify for an all-expense paid international research experience! The Symposium is free and open to the public. Breakfast and lunch will be served. MEN'S SOCCER (0-3, 0-0 GSC): The Bucs evened the match with Lindenwood at the half, but two goals in the second half from the Lions was just enough to edge the Bucs 3-2 Sunday afternoon. The Bucs open GSC play on the road Friday at Spring Hill and Sunday at West Florida. Full schedule…
