Word from the Watercooler

Congratulations to Rebecca Koudys on her newborn baby Lillia. Lillia was born on Friday, May 15, 7lbs 10oz.

Jonathan is donating his hair to Wigs for Kids. To help cover the costs of the hair replacement system for a child, he is looking for donations. The deadline to donate is July 15.

A message from Fiona Allan, associate vice president, Academic: Justin Williams named dean, Business and Tourism

I am pleased to welcome Justin Williams, PhD, back to the academic division as dean of Business and Tourism.

Justin is well known within the NC community, having previously held the position of associate dean in the School of Business and Management, and currently serving as director, Global Education and Partnerships in the International division.

Please join me in congratulating Justin, who will transition into his new role of dean beginning June 15, 2020.

A message from Steve Hudson: Mary Wilson accepts appointment to Wilfrid Laurier University

It is with mixed feelings I am announcing that Mary Wilson, our director of the Centre for Academic Excellence, has accepted a position as a tenured Associate Professor and Vice Provost, Teaching and Learning at Wilfrid Laurier University. Mary’s last day at NC will be August 14.

I am sure Mary’s passion and dedication will serve Laurier well. With her forebearance, I will continue to consider her a part of the NC family even if at a bit of a distance. Please join me in congratulating Mary on her new appointment.

New supports being offered

Updated and New Be NC Ready modules coming soon!
To continue the offering of comprehensive online support modules for all students, Laura Fakla is working hard with subject matter experts across the college to ensure our suite of Be NC Ready topics are up to date and adapted for our upcoming 20/21 school year. Among others, 2 new modules coming include Be Online Learning Ready and Be Research Ready. Quarantine Supports
As we look to welcome incoming international students for Fall 2020 term, the government of Canada is still requiring travellers arriving to quarantine for 14 days. Our Housing and Settlement team has created 2 great resources to provide to students in assisting with their plan. The Quarantine Support Resources document will be finalized shortly and sent directly to arriving students. The Be Quarantine Ready module will also be live shortly on our Be NC Ready webpage. Both of these resources will be posted to the international Housing webpage soon at https://international.niagaracollege.ca/student-services/housing-options/

NC Ready App launching

Download our Student Life App - Be NC Ready from the App store or Google Play today! You'll be able to create a profile and reach out to other students, see your orientation schedule, maps of the classrooms, directions to campus, connect to the college Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, and much more!

Automated Payment Receipts
Payment Receipts are now automated meaning students are no longer required to email Niagara College with proof of payment or request for receipt. Students will now receive an email to their personal and campus email accounts on file with the most current payment receipt summary within one business day of a payment posted to a student account. Receipts are generated nightly, so any payment posted to the student account will not show on a receipt until the following day. Students can also view their receipt through their MyNC account. PAL Mentor Update
For the first time, NC’s Pre-Arrival Link (PAL) Mentor program will be completely online for Fall 2020 with training commencing in late July via Zoom. After training has been completed, our new PALs will have bios online; new students will be able to connect with them through the email provided in the description or through the activity stream on the new app. Any students interested in becoming PAL Mentors can be directed to the posting on their International Homeroom and are asked to fill out an application. Any questions regarding the PAL Mentor program can be directed to Michelle Silk.
