The Parents,

The COVID-19 situation is creating a lot of uncertainty, and parameters around this are changing every hour. As a school, we are in frequent communication with Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga (CEDWW), and the Diocese are following the directives of Catholic Schools NSW and those of  the state and federal governments. Catholic Schools NSW is in constant discussion with NSW Health and the NSW Department of Education

The question on many people’s mind is,”Is the school going to close?” At the time of writing, the answer to this is, “ No.” What I can say, is that we are currently putting measures in place around possible school closures so that we have the resources available to support students at home if needed. Should we get to this stage, more information will be provided as to what this would look like for your children. Part of this planning involves gathering information about internet access at home. In the coming days, a survey will be sent out via Compass in regard to this, so please keep your eye out for this and complete as promptly as you can.

In the meantime, staff are doing everything possible to maintain a safe and supportive environment, encouraging safe and healthy practices with our students. Our school attendance records for this week would suggest that some families are choosing to keep their children home and whilst this is not a directive from Catholic Schools NSW, we appreciate the decisions you make.

The COV-ID19 situation has also meant that many events have been suspended until further notice. These include all sporting events, excursions, school camps, assemblies, travel outside the Diocese and major events.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:  The Parent/Child First Eucharist Meeting scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 1st April has been postponed until further notice.

Third  Week of Lent

In Last week’s Gospel we heard the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well.

“Jesus came to a Samaritan town and sat down by Jacob’s well. He asked a Samaritan woman for a drink of water. The woman was surprised because Jews did not like Samaritans. Jesus said to her, ‘The water I give is living water. Those who drink it will not get thirsty again.’ The woman said to Jesus, ‘I know that the Messiah is coming and he will tell us everything.’ Jesus replied, “I am he’.

Family Focus

Jesus used the symbol of water to explain how important he was; when we drink ordinary water, soon we are thirsty again. But Jesus gives us more than ordinary water; he refreshes us spiritually, offering us eternal life.

St Patrick’s Day

We were very disappointed not to be able to celebrate Mass yesterday to honour our school and parish patron, St Patrick. The children still looked wonderful dressed in green and there was a vibrant sense of joy around the school. Year levels participated in the Liturgy of the Word prayer service and the story of St Patrick and all things Irish were enjoyed in homerooms.

The decision has been made to cease all school and representative sport immediately due to the current health issue of COVID-19 we are facing. This decision made by the director of sport services for CSNSW, Robert Rush, has not been made lightly. The health and wellbeing of everyone who would be attending these gatherings of large groups is paramount. Cancellations are currently in place for the remainder of term 1 and, at this point in time, sports into mid term 2. We are hopeful that many of these sporting events will be rescheduled in the future and will keep you up to date and informed.

“Earth Hour is the world’s largest community-driven climate change campaign. At the centre of Earth Hour is switching off lights to show a commitment to taking action. Thousands of teachers use Earth Hour’s education program to enrich their curriculum and provide pathways for young people to create change in their world.

Earth Hour Schools Day is on Friday the 27 March 2020. You can also involve family and friends in Earth Hour on Saturday 28 March 2020 8:30-9:30pm.

We are joining hundreds of Australian schools and universities to switch off their lights for Earth Hour 2020! It’s time to raise awareness and take action for the future of our planet. We proudly stand as part of a community that wants to #SwitchOff and raise our voices for nature and see stronger action on climate change.

Business as usual isn’t good enough. Australia’s future is being threatened by climate change. 2020 is the most important year ever. We need stronger climate action now to conserve Australia’s natural heritage for the future. Our future.

We intend to be part of the solution to ensure that the natural resources and ecosystems in our schools are used sustainably. We pledge our support for stronger climate action so that Lo Australia can meet its commitments made at the 2015 Paris Agreement. Together we will help protect the planet for future generations.”
