Dear Parents,

The year has commenced very smoothly and the children have settled in well. It has been wonderful walking through classrooms seeing our teachers and students engaged in their learning.

On Tuesday 4th February, teachers from our Deanery gathered together for Mass to celebrate the beginning of a new school year and commitment to our profession. At this Mass, several of our teachers were recognised for reaching significant milestones in their years of service in Catholic education. Congratulations to Rob Unsworth, Brenda Seckold, Elecia Turner, Tony Brooks, Margie Moore and Jo Good.

Our Opening School Mass was a lovely celebration and we were thankful that many of you could join us for this. Congratulations to our Student Council who were presented with their badges. We are very much looking forward to meeting with them in the coming days.

Captains:           Lilly Baranyay   Charlie Plunkett

Vice Captains:  Ruby Moona   William Clarke

Councillors:       Milla Bush, Billy Hilton, Sofia Oliver, Harrison Paul, Mikayla Royal & Lachlan Wheatley.

Following Mass, Father Joel blessed and officially opened the Sensory Garden. Weather conditions were very hot and humid, and the children greatly appreciated the sprinkle of Holy Water that came their way!! To date, this new play area has brought great enjoyment for our students. The BBQ lunch organised by Mrs Phegan and cooked by Mr Brooks and Mr Phegan was most tasty and we thank them for all their work.

Please be reminded that Parent Teacher interviews will be held next week on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th. This is an opportunity for you to meet your child’s teacher and to share any relevant information you feel will enable your child to have a successful year. Bookings are now open in Conferences on Compass.

Our annual Open Day will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday 25th March between 1pm and 6pm. Our Year 6 students will be providing tours of our school. If you know of any families who are looking to enrol for 2021, could you please let them know.

During 2020, Mrs Jo Good has been appointed to a 0.2 (1 day a week) coordinator role within the school. This  role will encompass curriculum and overseeing the collection of K-6 student data which will be used by teachers to inform their teaching. Mr Rhys Dempsey has been appointed to Sport Coordinator and the Teacher Accreditation Development role. This position is also a 0.2 (1 day a week). As a result Mrs Good and Mr Dempsey will be released from their classrooms on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 12pm, and will be replaced by Mrs Moore and Mrs Fawcett.

There has been a few questions around the following issues so we will endeavour to answer them as clearly as possible:

Our Opening School Mass last Friday was a wonderful celebration of the beginning of the new school year. Fr Joel and Fr Marco celebrated Mass with the whole school community – children, teachers, parents and extended family members. It was a joyous occasion for our school to gather in prayer and song to receive God’s blessings.

During the Mass our Yr 6 student councillors were inducted as our school leaders for 2020. We prayed that God would bless them and help them to fulfil their responsibilities throughout the year. They pledged to do this before God and the school community. Following this the whole school prayed an act of dedication.
Act of Dedication
Heavenly Father, we offer our school year to you.
We offer our prayer, our work, our play and all that we do. We believe these actions continue the work of Your Son, Jesus. May we bring blessings to our families, our school and our wider community.
Mary, our Mother, we ask you to take us in your care.
Amen.

Thank you to Fr Joel for officially blessing and opening our Sensory Garden. Being sprinkled with holy water was very much appreciated!

It was wonderful to enjoy a BBQ lunch with the families following Mass – there was a real sense of community as we shared a sausage!
