A Secret and Hidden Wisdom
The Foolishness and Power of the Cross
Our Most Precious Possession
A Secret and Hidden Wisdom   1 Corinthians 2:6-13

Paul wants us to understand though he criticised human wisdom in 1 Corinthians 1, Christianity is not anti-wisdom. Christianity is all about wisdom, and so he turns now to talk about the wisdom that is at the heart of our faith.

“A message of wisdom among the mature...not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing...” Paul doesn’t mean the age or experience of Christian, but the mature choice of a Christian to gladly receive, gladly submit to God’s wisdom, because we are all about wisdom. Not the current fad or fashion we attach ourselves to, led by whoever is the flavour of the moment.  We live in an ever changing culture what was brilliant yesterday, we disagree with today; and what we agree with today, we’ll reject tomorrow. That wisdom is attached to the current situation.

We impart a secret and hidden wisdom. “God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.” The wisdom that we live on and rely in has one source. God alone. God is the only reliable source to define who you are and what life is about, its meaning and purpose.

What wisdom forms your words; what wisdom shapes your decisions; what wisdom directs your relationships; what wisdom controls the way you act and react and respond? Are you actually living, based on the wisdom of Almighty God?

“None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.” what is the thing that’s wrong with the wisdom of the world? It misses the thing that is the hope of the world - Christ. The wisdom of the world is a system of redemption without a redeemer.

The cross defines who God is. who you are. what life is about. what’s wrong with the world. the solution. The cross defines life. The cross gives meaning and purpose.

“we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.. But it is written, what no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him. These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit.” That means, we ought to be deeply grateful the stunning insight, the glorious hope,  the powerful warning, the practical principles for everyday living, the life in this Book. This revelation will turn you upside down and set you on a different course. It will undo you and build you again. It will transform who you are, and what you think, and what you do.

“… these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God”. The Spirit of God has the mind of God so the Spirit of God directed men of God to write the Words of God for the people of God.

There is another ministry of the Spirit that we need, “What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.”
If you’re ever going to understand the Gospel, you don’t just need revelation; you need illumination.

“This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.”
Only the Spirit of God can take the words of this text, applying them to your heart and your life with conviction, encouragement, hope, and challenge. It’s not the preachers job. It’s God’s Spirit.

The Spirit of God delights in applying His Word to His people. In the cross; we find forgiveness; power; hope; deliverance, because the veil over the cross has been removed, and we see its glory. The cross is no longer foolishness to us. We do that because the Spirit that lives within us is a Spirit of revelation and illumination.
