As morning breaks I look to You.
I look to You, O God, to be my strength this day,
As morning breaks, as morning breaks.

Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord | August 6

The feast of the Transfiguration {Mt. 17:1-9, Mk 9:2-12 Lk. 9:28-36} has always been a proclamation that assures us that Jesus Christ is truly the Lord, shining with the glory of God: “light from light, true God from true God”, as we say in the creed.

What was experienced on that mountain by the three disciples was not a sound and light show, but rather a revelation of Jesus’ divinity. The same uncreated light by which Peter, James and John were overwhelmed is the same uncreated light to which Moses and Elijah bore witness.

With Christ and in Christ through our baptism, we are granted the possibility of bearing that divine light to a world in darkness.  We do this through faith, and by the work of the Holy Spirit, who guides us up to our own mount Tabor in the very midst of the darkness of our sins.

If we have faith that the light has come into the world, and the darkness has not overcome it {John 1:5}, we must proclaim that truth whatever happens.

It is our duty as Christians to listen to the Word of God, to listen to Jesus, because he speaks to us and saves us by His word.
Do we listen to Jesus each day in the Gospel?

Do we read a passage from the Gospel & accompany Jesus in His saving work?

Do we have a “pocket” Gospel so we can read it at any moment?
