More than 200 displaced women and children in Ukraine will continue to receive food and shelter – thanks to fresh support from the UK office of Aid to the Church in Need (ACN).

Ivano-Frankivsk Archdiocese, western Ukraine – which has been looking after displaced families since the start of the war – turned to ACN to ensure it could provide ongoing care for those who fled their homes.

Most of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) being helped by the archdiocese are women and children who escaped Russian assaults on large cities including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Odessa.

Archbishop Volodymyr Wytyschyn of Ivano-Frankivsk told the charity: “Fleeing from the great catastrophe brought to our country by Russia’s war, people are seeking salvation and shelter in the western regions of our country.”

Dr Caroline Hull, national director of Aid to the Church in Need (UK), praised the work being done for IDPs in Ukraine.

She said: “Sisters, priests and others in Ukraine are doing amazing work looking after those who have had to seek refuge far from home. The UK office of ACN is delighted to be supporting the incredible work done by our Church partners."

Since the invasion of Ukraine, ACN has provided more than £2 million in essential aid to help the Church minister to those affected by the war.

Seeds of Faith are flowering
More and more young women are choosing to dedicate their lives to God and joining contemplative orders like the Sisters of the Protection of the Holy God-bearing Virgin located in the heart of Lviv’s old town. Vocations are blooming – and ACN has helped to sow the seeds.

Sister Hlykeria told me “In 1989 I wrote and asked for a Child’s Bible from Aid to the Church in Need. It was the first time I felt that someone had heard a request of mine and responded to it.

She added: “Thank you for all your help… May God reward your people ten-fold for their generosity and give them grace to continue to help them grow in goodness and love.”

Ten Churches in Ten Miles

22nd May 2022
We are delighted the walk will be taking place this May after several postponements in 2021 due to COVID-19. The ACN Team is walking 10 miles to 10 churches in London, in one day — 22nd May 2022. These churches include Tyburn Convent; St Patrick’s, Soho Square; and Notre Dame de France. At each church, we will be praying for the suffering and persecuted Church. We remain extremely grateful for the support of our walkers, the churches involved and all who provide sponsorship for this challenge.
