Take A Moment for Hospice Care Week

Dear Lise

This year's Hospice Care Week runs from 3 to 9 October. It's a chance for Noah's Ark, and hospices across the UK, to talk about their work and why it's so important.

We'll be out and about fundraising during the week including at Brent Cross shopping centre between 12noon and 5pm on Wednesday 5 October. Please stop by and drop some cash in our buckets - we'll have our hippo mascots Henry and Harriet in tow, so you can't miss us!

Meanwhile please Take a Moment to read the latest on our new building, find out all about our music and drama therapists and learn how you could help a family by volunteering.

Industry call to make our new hospice happen

Sellar Property Group, the people behind the Shard and upcoming Paddington Cube, are calling on colleagues in the construction industry to support our new hospice build.

Group founder Irvine Sellar said: "We’ve tapped into our supply chain, letting them know how important Noah’s Ark is and what a powerful impact the industry can make.”

In response Erith Demolition have already been at work clearing our Byng Road site ready for development – £170,000 worth of resource provided for free.

Read more about how the industry is coming together for what could be the last children’s hospice to be built in London.

Meet our new therapists

Music therapist Kirsty Ormston and drama and movement therapist Amy Keenan joined Noah's Ark in September. According to Kirsty everyone reacts to music in some way, and this professional cellist will help children develop and communicate through sound and song.

Amy, who trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, will help children use their natural love of roleplay and stories to enhance their experiences. Read about them here.

Plant an Appleseed today

We are still looking for volunteers to join Project Appleseed, the fabulous volunteering project run by Noah’s Ark and the Whittington Health NHS Trust Life Force team. It puts ordinary people in touch with families who would benefit from support in lots of ways – from helping a young person with homework to doing a spot of ironing or tidying up a garden. Whatever your skills and hobbies, read more about the project and volunteering with Noah’s Ark or contact Anna Fitzgibbon to get involved.

Piotr sees Spurs win 5-0

Thanks to our charity partnership with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, Noah’s Ark client Piotr Zakrzweski visited White Hart Lane to see the team play Gillingham in the EFL Cup. Piotr, along with his mum, dad and two brothers, went pitch-side before watching the home side beat Gillingham 5-0. After the event Piotr's dad rated the whole family "100% happy". Read more about our charity partnership on the For Precious Moments website where you can find about volunteering too.

City Giving Day brings £120k

This year's City Giving Day on 27 September was about dressing in red to show support for good causes - Noah's Ark red in our case as it brought us a £120,000 grant from the City Bridge Trust! We're using the money to fund our new music and drama therapy services.

The grant follows a pledge of £82,000 from BBC Children in Need, which will fund a new specialist carer for three years. You can find out more about the grants on our news pages.

Don't miss our Will Week offer

We're running our first Will Week offer during Hospice Care Week, so don't miss this chance to make sure your wishes are followed after your death - while helping Noah's Ark into the bargain.

Solicitors Michael Anvoner & Co are offering reduced fees for will writing during the week and donating these fees to Noah's Ark, whether or not you leave a gift to us. Find out more and book now.

Make your first fiver ours!

They can withstand a washing machine, as well as a destructive pet - now they're making a big difference to charities.

The new £5 notes with added plastic are the focus of a social media campaign that's urging people to donate their first one to a good cause close to their heart - and we'd love it if you gave yours to Noah's Ark. If you do, please remember to tweet about it using #firstfiver!

Make sure you get your tickets for our Noah’s Ark’s Precious Moments Concert 2016, taking place on 26 November. School choirs and professional groups will perform a festive mix of music in the beautiful surroundings of St James Church, Muswell Hill. The show is likely to be a sell out so book now on our website or by contacting Holly Marriott.
