Positive steps towards sustainable palm oil

In the last couple of months there has been encouraging progress towards sustainability in the palm oil sector. Transnational companies Unilever and Nestlé have started publishing detailed lists of their palm oil suppliers. PepsiCo has suspended ties with supplier Indo Agri over labour rights and sustainability concerns. Locally, Singaporean F& B companies such as Old Chang Kee,Tung Lok and Crystal Jade have switched to or have committed to using sustainable palm oil. UWCSEA student Gauri (left) and Yale-NUS undergraduate Regina (right) started a petition on change.org to urge iconic Singaporean brands Old Chang Kee and Polar Puff to switch to sustainable palm oil. Jia Yang, A passionate NTU student is trying to get her university to be Haze-Free! She is initiating a survey of Nanyang Technology University (NTU) staff and students to assess their opinion on whether NTU should switch to sustainable palm oil in their eateries. The survey results will be presented to the school administration.

She needs help to distribute the survey on campus from 12 to 16 March 12 - 2pm! Register for your available volunteering date.
