Thank you to all volunteers!

We appreciate each and every Read and Feed volunteer for giving our participants one of your most precious gifts - TIME! Whether you are a reading tutor, pick up food, drive a mobile classroom, or help in the office, your efforts directly impact children in Wake County.

Because of you, children have a comfortable and safe place to practice reading and writing and enjoy a meal with peers and caring adults.
In March alone, our reading tutors volunteered over 1,700 hours!
Bill Bowers drives a mobile classroom because he wants to make a difference in the community.

"Most adults can remember at least one role model in their life that helped them become the person that they are today. For me, that was my middle school youth pastor, Brent. He was from California, had tattoos, a wallet chain and wore Vans with baggy cargo shorts.

I want one of the Read and Feed students to remember me one day as a role model."

Pam Vashaw helps pick up food from our community partners and distribute meals to program sites.

"Reading was one of my favorite things as a kid. I liked to read on my own and I liked having others read to me. The things I learned from books that I read "for fun" have stuck with me long after I've forgotten the facts I studied in school.

I think it’s great that Read and Feed helps children who maybe don't get the same encouragement that I did as a child."

Jennifer Reed is a team lead at our New Hope Baptist program site.

"When my daughter left for college, I had time on my hands. I heard about Read and Feed at a meeting at my church. After I volunteered the first time, I was hooked. I love children, and I feel it is important to help them gain a love for reading at an early age. I can't think of any job that does not require reading on a daily basis."
