National Reading Month

Although March is recognized as National Reading Month, Read and Feed celebrates year round! Read and Feed participants choose up to three books per week to add to their home libraries and read with their families.

Here are some fun facts about literacy:

Children's books contain up to 50% more rare words than primetime TV shows or the average conversation of a college student.

The largest book in the world is the Klencke Atlas at approximately 5' 9" tall and 6' 3" wide.

Dr. Seuss' first book was rejected by over 20 publishers, and his books have now sold over 500 million copies around the world!

Read and Feed helps foster "an appetite for reading" for approximately 600 children every week!
Feed the Reader Breakfast

Thanks to those who joined our Feed the Reader Breakfast on March 28. With nearly 200 people in attendance, we raised more than $16,000 in support of our 23 program sites!  If you weren’t able to join, but would like to help us surpass our goal,  please make a donation here

We are very grateful to Bill Reh for facilitating the panel discussion between three of our volunteer tutors - Naomi De Guzman (Teacher and volunteer tutor), Virginia Cardenas (volunteer tutor and former Principal), and Diana Bernas (volunteer tutor and board member). We learned how students are selected, and the relationships tutors develop with them each week. Because of our committed volunteers, our participants continue to improve their literacy and reading confidence.

Spring and Summer Schedules

Given spring break is late this year, our spring program for most sites concludes the week of April 8th.  In addition, this year Read and Feed will not offer a formal summer program.

This decision was made for a variety of reasons, including the relocation of the office to the other end of the shopping center in July. We will use this time to take inventory, move the entire office space and mobile classrooms to ensure we are organized and ready for a successful 2019-2020 program.

If you have any additional questions, please email sara.thames@readandfeed.org.
