Wrapping up our fall semester

The last day of Read and Feed in December is a fun-filled holiday celebration. Each site celebrates in their own way- with songs, holiday books, crafts, treats, and even visits from Santa. Due to the snow, we had to cancel some sessions, but several of our kids still got to party with their friends and tutors.

Now we're on a break until the week of January 7 when we'll be back in the swing of things with 23 program sites serving 600+ children.
Special surprise for Read and Feed

Read and Feed is so appreciative of Cary police officer Joe Labrador and his wife Shanna. They surprised Read and Feed participants at our Maynard Estates site with bags of Christmas gifts on their last night.

Our program site at New Hope Baptist Church is still in need of tutors for the 6:15-7:15 session on Monday evenings. The first meeting day is January 7.

A message from Executive Director Kati Mullan

Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe that the end of 2018 is here already. This is a great time to reflect on 2018 as we look forward to serving more children and expanding our impact in 2019.

One of the highlights of this past year was the purchase our newest mobile classroom- a 2011 Fleetwood Bounder. With the help of a project team from Leadership Raleigh, the RV was transformed into a mobile classroom. Our mobile classrooms provide a safe environment for the children, a place where we can feed their hunger to learn.

I am grateful to be surrounded by people who feel passionately about Giving Kids an Appetite for Reading. In fact, during our spring 2019 semester, we will serve children in Wake County at 23 different program sites- the most we’ve ever had! And we have the opportunity to nurture these children by bringing them food, books and caring adults each week. These children know that we are a community who cares.

Thank you to all of you for supporting our vision of a community in which children have the ability and confidence to succeed.  Together we are making a difference!  Cheers to 2019!
