Generosity abounds on #GivingTuesday!

Yesterday was Giving Tuesday, which marks the first day of the giving season and is recognized as an international day of charitable giving. We are amazed at the outpouring of support this year and truly appreciate all of you for donating, sharing our Facebook campaign, and helping us surpass our goal of $2,500 and instead bringing in a grand total of...$2,856!!

Together, your donations:
  • sponsor 5 children for next semester with meals, curriculum, a book bag, school supplies, and incentives
  • cover the cost of 180 new books for Read and Feed participants
  •  provide book bags and school supplies for 10 children

We know there are a lot of great causes to support, and we are grateful that you choose to support Read and Feed and children's literacy in Wake County!
Read and Feed is now a Service Enterprise!

A Service Enterprise (SE) is an organization that leverages volunteers and their skills to fulfill its mission. Volunteers are deeply integrated into the organization's strategic plan and infrastructure, which increases efficiency and effectiveness.
The first step in becoming a SE is to complete a diagnostic to determine what needs attention from a list of 10 characteristics and then generate an action plan.

The staff- Jamie, Kati, and Heather- created an action plan during our intensive training classes last February and March. Our 15-item action plan included tasks such as- create detailed job descriptions for all volunteer positions, send out annual volunteers surveys and exit surveys for volunteers who leave Read and Feed, establish appropriate on-boarding process for new volunteers/board members and recruit board and committee members with specific higher level skills.
After completing the tasks, we submitted our application and were awarded our SEI Certification.

Tomorrow, we will be presented with the official certificate by Mike Sweeney and Kimberly Shaw from the Triangle Nonprofit and Leadership Center. Follow us on social media to see pictures!
  • We are still in need of a volunteer to prepare the mobile classrooms on Thursdays at the Cary office. Duties include stocking RVs, organizing curriculum, and light cleaning. Time frame: 1-2 hours between 10 am-1:30 pm.

  • There's a new program site starting in January. When: Mondays from 5-6 pm and 6:15-7:15 pm. Location for mobile classroom: New Hope Baptist Church at 4301 Louisburg Road in Raleigh. Are you interested in tutoring or being a Team Lead?
