Welcome to the December eNewsletter.

We would like to wish all RDAQ members an amazing Christmas and a Happy New Year.

RDAQ Matters

Christmas is upon us all so it is my pleasant duty to pass on to each and everyone of you RDAQ Board’s and Staff’s sincerest wishes for Both Christmas and the coming New Year.
I have recently had the pleasure attending the Pony Club Personality Fund Raising Dinner in Mackay, where I was in the company of among others Mary Steel, President of Mackay RDA and Coach Jennifer Fehring and her husband Richard Fehring.

This year for the first time in the Quest history the award for Personality was won by an RDA Entrant; Bundaberg RDA’s Talitha Mulvena. Talitha is 19 years old a volunteer at the Bundaberg Centre who has just started her won Photography Business with boyfriend Michael and helps her father as a carer for her younger brother Tim who is a client at the centre.

Junior winner and Charity winner was the lovely Georgia Rigby who has focused her efforts to benefit Crowson Park RDA.

All contestants are a credit to their families and the associations they represent, I give our sincerest thanks to them all.

We have been busy at RDAQ organising the AGM for January 16th at Crowson Park, preparing our calendar of events and finalising paper work for our plans for the Hendra Centre.

We will be calling for expressions of interest from Coaches wishing to assist with our 2016 training Program and will again be seeking the invaluable assistance of Chris Nott with assessments and other coaching matters.

Our best to you all, form RDAQ.

Bundaberg RDA

Talitha Mulvena is the Bundaberg RDA Personality Quest entrant. The money she has raised will go to the Bundaberg RDA centre and we are extremely proud of all her efforts. We congratulate her on winner the PCAQ Personality Quest.

Bundaberg RDA have started riding twice a month now and have seen huge improvements in all of our riders.  We are looking forward to see how amazing our riders will do in 2016.

We have also entered in to the Pageant of Lights that the Bundaberg Regional council put on every year. We had so much fun putting together the float and look forward to doing it again next year if we can.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Bundaberg RDA
Cheers
Sue Golchert

Crowson Park RDA

Crowson Park has wrapped up for 2015 with a fantastic night of awards. We had nearly 200 people attend and 150 centre auction prizes. All riders received an award and certificate. Ben Jeffrey was awarded our "Prydes Rider of the year". Ben received his trophy, framed photo collage and his name on our perpetual trophy. Ben was so excited that when he rung his Grandmother he happily told her  he was named "Horse of the Year". Ben is pictured proudly showing his big brother his awards.
All volunteers received a small gift and card including the wording, "Thank you for the Generous gift of your time and energy as a Volunteer at Crowson Park".
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at RDAQ for the support and work they have put back into the centres. At Crowson it has been our biggest year ever. We are looking forward to an even bigger year when we start back lessons in March 2016.
I speak on behalf of Crowson Park when I wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas.

Linda

Crowson Parks Amazing Volunteers

Rockhampton RDA

thanks to the generosity of many parties including RACQ Foundation, Stanwell Power Station Community Fund, National Australia Bank Community Relief grant, John Villiers Trust, Gambling Community Benefit Fund, local Lions & Rotary clubs, Inner Wheel club and many individual donations the shade structure that was damaged by the cyclone in February has been completely rebuilt. We are so grateful for all of the hard work everyone put in.
We held a breakup party for the Sunday Riders on the 22nd November and a separate one for the Wednesday school groups on Wednesday the 2nd December which everyone really enjoyed.
On behalf of Rockhampton RDA we would like to thank our amazing volunteers as they  have worked tirelessly as usual throughout the year despite all of the challenges around not having a shaded area to conduct weekly sessions and during the disruptions while construction took place. We couldn't have done it with out you.

Cheers,
Enid Rockhampton RDA

Blackwater RDA

On Saturday 14th November we had a mini gymkhana with our riders, this was the culmination of an 8 week program.  Even though the temperature became very hot, very quick the riders enjoyed themselves and were very proud of their ribbons.  While we were enjoying our morning tea, we presented our riders with a certificate of achievement stating what they could now do on horseback.  Our volunteers were not forgotten either as Bec and Billie Boase were presented with certificates for three years volunteer service to our RDA centre. Our new volunteers, Mikaela King and Kristy Mitchell were presented with a certificate to show they had completed level 1 & 2 of their volunteer inductions.

Karen Moran from Blue Ridge Estate (a new housing development here in Blackwater) was on hand to accept her certificate of appreciation from our centre for their kind donation of $1,000 which purchased 12 portable panels to use as holding yards on our ride days, they are very handy and are being put to use already.

We were the lucky recipients of a $5,000 grant from Wesfarmers Curragh, who encouraged us to purchase a new horse for the centre.  We bought Zena, a registered quarter horse mare, 17 years old, who is really great with the kids.  We also purchased a set of stables right beside the Pony Club grounds so we can house Zena at night.

2015 started off slowly for our small centre, and with a decline in rider numbers and volunteers we thought things might have to go on hold for a bit, but the dedicated volunteers we had left, decided that we should keep going with the reduced numbers, and so we did one on one lessons with a couple of riders just to keep the centre alive.  Then luckily we had some interest from new riding members which kicked off the 8 week program and got us all back into the swing again.
Hopefully 2016 will be a better year, we will be starting lessons again in the middle of April (when it cools down) and going through until middle of October when we will once again have a gymkhana to finish off the year.

Merry Christmas to all, and best of wishes for a successful 2016.
Regards
Deb

 Gemfields RDA

GRDA had their first trail ride on 14th November with 4 riders taking part. For some this was a first to go out of the arena area and just go for a ride. Both horses and riders thoroughly enjoyed this little adventure. Our ride took us through some trails in Sapphire and we circled around to come back to our centre. The ride took approximately ¾ of an hour and several of our riders’ family and carers came on foot on the walk as well.
On 21st November we had our Christmas Party, playing various games for prizes followed by a sausage sizzle and Santa arriving to hand out some early presents to our riders. All had a fun time.
GEMFIELDS 2015 CHRISTMAS PARTY
Our horses are going out for a well-earned rest over the really hot period and we hope to re-open in late March to early April.  Keep your eyes on the Community Newsletter for our opening date and AGM information early in 2016.
Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year to everyone.
