Whether you're a regular rider or newcomer to the hobbie, National Ride2Work Day is a fantastic opportunity to kickstart your workday with some fresh air and physical activity.

For newcomers, this is a great opportunity to kickstart a new habit whilst potentially making some new cycling buddies.  For regular riders, this is the time to celebrate the joys of cycling.

Providing a COVID Safe Environment at our Events

As we return to in-person activities, scheduled Brimbank City Council events will be managed in alignment with the current COVIDSafe settings in Victoria and all attendees will be required to follow the present guidelines. For up-to-date health information visit www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au

To help us manage our events safely, we continue to require all attendees to register beforehand on the Brimbank events page.
 

Reuse Solutions For Cafes - Masterclass

Join Sustainability Victoria and learn from five different businesses that are offering reuse strategies for single-use coffee cups. This masterclass is perfect for restaurants, cafes and takeaway food businesses.

Beautifully Broke: Artist Talk With Phillip Edwards

Join prominent Australian artist Phillip Edwards to discuss his latest paintings which explore how environmental conditions and human psychology mirror each other.

Community Working Bee 

This conservation community working bee will involve fun activities such as planting and weeding. This event is open to all. You're welcome to stay for as long as you'd like and no registration are required.

Sydenham Park Twilight Walking Tour

This Mental Health Week, join us on a beautiful guided walk at twilight. We'll be looking at the plants and animals present, and you'll learn about the various re-vegetation works that have occurred.

Bookings are essential.

Setting Up And Maintaining A Compost Bin

In this workshop, learn how to set up a compost bin, why composting food and garden waste is important, what should and shouldn't be put in a compost bin, maintenance requirements, and how to actually use compost in your garden.

Kororoit Creek Walk and Community Planting

Join the Friends of Kororoit Creek for a guided 1 hour nature walk along the calming Kororoit Creek. The walk will begin at "The Bug Rug" and follow down to the "Lizard Lounge" and return.  A community planting session will take place after the walk at The Bug Rug.

(once at the walking trail, turn right and walk along the trail to the Bug Rug)

How To Electrify Your Home 

Join us for workshops about converting to or building an all-electric home. The event will be held at Kororoit Creek Neighbourhood House- Brimbank Council’s model all-electric facility!

Workshops include the nine steps to going all-electric in your home with energy consultant and author, Richard Keech, followed by a Q&A session. Then join for an induction stove-top cooking demonstration!

Cairnlea Grasslands By Bike

Join the Grassy Plains Network for an afternoon of grassland exploration by bike. Bring your own bike, meeting at Denton Avenue Grassland Reserve, the tour will wind up at Iramoo Grasslands, with several stops along the way.

Follow Your Organic Waste Tour 

Brimbank is celebrating National Recycling Week by hosting an education tour of Veolia's state of the art organics recovery facility. Follow your organic waste and find out what happens after your bin is emptied; including the processes and new products created. 


Where: Bus will be leaving from and arriving back to Brimbank Community and Civic Centre, 301 Hampshire Road, Sunshine

Garage Sale Trail 2022

Join in Australia's festival of pre-loved stuff over two weekends of gigantic garage sales held simultaneously in unit blocks, garages, schools, and ovals throughout Australia. Sellers can create a free listing on the national map and access additional resources. Buyers can enjoy Australia's largest pre-loved shopping event.

Birds In Backyards Spring Surveys

These surveys are the perfect opportunity for you to unwind, choose your favourite nature spot, and identify and count birds via the Birdata app. These surveys will provide Birdlife Australia with valuable insight into the daily lives of local birds. There are also prizes to be won!

The Schools Recycle Right Challenge

Planet Ark has developed a set of curriculum-aligned lesson plans to make it easy for teachers to teach students the importance of recycling and resource recovery.

Activity sheets can be downloaded and used in the classroom to teach your students more about recycling.
Get your school involved! Students will learn the importance of reducing their waste and will give them the confidence to identify recyclables and waste-free alternatives.

Greater Western Water are offering:
  • Local Community Sponsorships of up to $5,000 for local community-based activities which foster opportunity, inclusivity and equality.
  • Community Grants of up to $20,000 for initiatives or projects which assist the environment, local communities, industry and individuals to grow and thrive.

Small Environmental Grant Scheme
 

Apply for the Small Environmental Grant Scheme if you have a project related to flora and fauna conservation in Australia planned. The project must involve at least one of the following:
  • Delivery of community education
  • Research and science
  • Recording, monitoring and sharing data
  • Community capacity building

New Builds - Solar Homes Program
 

Building a new home? This is your chance to save on electricity bills and Solar PV installation costs. Eligible Victorians can apply for a $1400 rebate in addition to a $1400 interest free loan for installation costs.

Homeowners can save up to $800 on installation costs, in addition to saving $1073 on annual energy costs.

Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) Subsidy - Solar Victoria
 

To tackle the climate crisis, the Victorian government is aiming for half of all light vehicle sales in Victoria to be ZEVs by 2030. Solar Victoria's ZEV subsidy reduces the upfront costs of purchasing an electric vehicle.
There are currently still over 3000 ZEV subsidies available!
