Looking Ahead to Social Media...UGH
Thank you for subscribing to the FCS newsletter. This is the first issue written by me.  My predecessor had excellent writing skills and a flair for the funnies.  Over time I hope to be as good as he was.  As most of you may already know, Barry started FCS in 2005 because there was not an online resource for Florida car shows.  With the growing trend in smart phones and the need for instant accurate information, he saw the future.  Ten years later, his hobby grew into a full-time job so he passed the torch to me so I might carry it to the next level. 

It has been exactly one year since the re-launch of FCS.  After some early trials and tribulations (thanks for your patience) and a bit of resistance to change, the upgrade was successful as indicated by the numbers.   An astonishing 1.75 million page views; double over previous years with a substantial increase in new viewers.  Not to bore you with stats, but this means more car events listed, more spectator attendance, more cars and trucks on display and more money for many of the charities who host these events.  They are the real winners here.

It is now time to take FCS one step further…social media.  Ugh. That is a scary phase for many of us, I included, but the gap needs to be bridged between the Old CarGuys or Gals and the New.  While I can’t tell you how to set it up on your smart phone, it’s smart so it should do it by itself, I will try to make it as easy as possible to follow without logging in. 

Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and RSS are foreign concepts to me but over the next couple months I will be learning to incorporate them into FCS.  I admit that I’m a car show addict and collecting classics is part of that sickness.  I’m sure many of you have the same infliction.  So I’m going to feed that addiction by upping my travel game this year, getting out of Orlando and documenting it in real time along with my social sidekick Shelly.  She has a flair (or addiction as I call it) for texting, Facebooking, picture taking and selfies, making her perfect for the job.  Videos may take some training and gumption to figure out, or wine might do the trick better. 

What does this mean for you?  You will see and hear how the events are before you make the trip, view cars and trucks that you may never have seen before, learn about the local fare (we do like to eat) and be part of the interesting things that happen along the way.  My hope is that it opens a dialogue between car people from all over and demonstrates that the car community is larger than the 5 mile radius to the local cruise in.  

As the Old Guys always say “it’s all about the journey, the destination is just our excuse”.  -  Tara
