New Changes To Foundation Scholarships Expand Eligibility To More Salem City Students; Applications Now Being Accepted!

Those familiar with the Forman S. Acton Educational Foundation know that students selected as Forman Scholars are eligible to receive up to $40,000 during their undergraduate college years.

But this year for the first time, the Forman S. Acton Educational Foundation is accepting scholarship applications from students not only in their junior year at Salem High School, but also juniors living in Salem City and attending a school in the Salem County Vocational Technical School District, or attending one of the public Salem County high schools that are open to enrollment to Salem City students.

Applications are being accepted from April 1 through May 31, 2018 from members of the June 2019 graduating class.

Free College Experience Available For All High School Students In Salem City! Apply By April 30th

Salem students attending Rowan University's STEAM Academy

Coming this July, high school students in Salem City will have an incredible opportunity to experience college life, earn college credit and get valuable advice on finding a job after college graduation.

Rowan University’s STEAM Academy offers high school students instruction and presentations given by university faculty in a number of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses. With three different programs tracks—one for incoming freshmen who just completed eighth grade and two different programs for students who will be sophomores, juniors and seniors this fall—the program is a great way to experience a taste of what’s to come after high school and get a tremendous advantage in the college application process.

The best news for any current or incoming high school student, who lives in Salem City or attends Salem High School, is that the Forman S. Acton Educational Foundation will provide scholarships to cover all tuition and transportation for any Salem City student accepted into the STEAM Academy at Rowan University.

City of Salem Mayor Charles Washington, Jr., with Kortney Swanson Davis, Forman S. Acton Educational Foundation COO, and Joyce Elwell, Acorn Fund College Savings Coordinator

In February, City of Salem Mayor Charles Washington, Jr., celebrated our foundation's namesake, Forman S. Acton, with a special proclamation honoring his legacy on the four-year anniversary of his passing.

Afterwards, we spoke with the mayor about his feelings on why education is so important for Salem City students and what Forman S. Acton's lasting legacy will be in Salem City.

Introducing Our New Social Media Manager!

Joining the Forman S. Acton Educational Foundation was an easy decision for Oluwatomiwa “Tomi” Kosko.

Not only would he be a part of an organization that’s working to change the lives of youths in Salem every day, but he’d be partially responsible for making sure everyone knows about all the opportunities the foundation offers.
