NEWSLETTER

Hello <<First Name>>,
We’re right in the heart of winter now so we hope you’re reading this from a nice warm cosy spot. We've just had a moment to sit back and reflect on what we've been doing for the last couple of months.

Trevor's Top Tip

With all the unpredictable weather we’ve had lately it’s important to make sure your vehicle is up to safety standards.
Ten points if you’ve got your car equipped with an emergency kit! Imagine you’re in a hurry, driving down the motorway on a cold and wet wintry night. Suddenly your car brakes down and you have to safely pull over to the side of the road.
Are you prepared with the following?
  • Blankets
  • Food and water
  • Phone and charger
  • Torch and batteries
  • Jump start cables
  • Tyre pump
  • First Aid Kit
  • Comfortable shoes

Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge

Martin Sutherland, one of our senior instructors, recently competed in the annual Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge. He and over 850 other firefighters raised $1,170,176 for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand. This event involves racing up the 1,103 stairs of Auckland’s iconic Sky Tower wearing 25 kilograms of safety gear.

Martin has been enthusiastically fundraising for months during the weekends, holidays and late nights. Everyone participating, worked to reach the total goal of $850,000.
Amazingly, this was achieved only three days before the event and continues to rapidly climb.
There’s still time to get involved or donate now

Ensuring Worker Safety at Transmission Gully

When we think of Transmission Gully, we all think of the major roadworks going on. However, spare a thought for the men and women working in the tunnel. This tunnel houses the water pipe, that runs through the Gully, transferring water to Porirua. While workers are removing dirt from above the tunnel, the pipe requires checking to ensure that the removal of dirt does not move the pipe.

FETS is pleased to be working on the development of Transmission Gully. We helped them create and practice a rescue plan as well as ensuring they had received the correct training before entering to the tunnel.

This training will support this project for the next 3 months and play an important role in ensuring the safety of those involved.

June Fast Facts

We've had a really busy month here at FETS. So we looked at all our statistics and were blown away.
