Elections a top priority for Afghan government

In a meeting with Afghan and international government officials at the Presidential Palace on April 26, 2018, President Ashraf Ghani said upcoming parliamentary elections are a top national priority and discussed logistical progress and security measures for the voter registration process. President Ghani emphasizes regional connectivity at Tashkent Conference

At the Tashkent Conference on March 26, President Ghani emphasized the advantages of in-land trading connectivity, regional collaboration for mutual economic advancement; achievements made in the regional energy sector; and emerging threats and the importance of a united front for peace. Read more here.

National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar discussed progress on peace and stability at USIP

On March 22, National Security Advisor to President Ghani, Hanif Atmar, engaged in discussion at the US Institute of Peace with Chair Stephen Hadley about the successes and challenges of security in Afghanistan, as part of his official trip to Washington. President of USIP, Nancy Lindborg said, “Afghanistan remains one of the most critical foreign policy priorities for the United States.” Read more here. 


Minister of Communication and IT visits Washington to build partnerships

Minister of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), Shahzad Aryobee, visited Washington, DC last month for a series of meetings with senior US officials and high-ranking officials of international companies to discuss bilateral relations and strengthen the Afghan-US partnership in the tech sector. Read more here

Kabul signs Sister Cities Friendship agreement with Kansas City, Missouri

On May 15, 2018, Deputy Mayor of Kabul, Shoaib Rahim, visited the United States to sign a Sister Cities Friendship agreement with the mayor of Kansas City, Missouri, Sly James. The Embassy of Afghanistan hosted a panel to discuss the partnership.  Read more here.
