Dear Colleague

Where ever you are in the world, you are undoubtedly affected in some way by the COVID-19 virus. Here is South Africa we are experiencing the first day of a 3-week lockdown. Although viruses have taken their toll on humanity in the past, this pandemic is unprecedented in the context of a technologically advanced and digital world. This is a double-edged sword in that digital communication allows both an overwhelming amount of fake news as well as lightning fast official updates and preventative information. I too am struggling to distinguish between what is fact and what is misinformation.

I have chosen the header image of a forest because despite their separation, forest trees are linked and communicate through their underground root systems. They even support each other when one is struggling! My hope in this series of mailers is to help you with resources, support and some ideas to keep things as cheery as possible at home with one of my passions, cooking! I'd love to hear what you are enjoying too! Let me know what you want to hear!

I am also hosting weekly online community of practice events so we can connect and support each other, just like forests of trees!

Effective Remote Working

I love using Zoom for connecting with local and global clients alike! User-friendly features, end-to-end encryption and reliability make working digitally a dream.

Zoom has recently made a number of resources available, now that many office workers are transitioning to the online space. There are some great ideas and tips here.

Digital Marketing

I've spent dozens of hours listening to marketing gurus, I've been coached by self-appointed marketing experts and I've struggled to get my head around the strategies and philosophies. The problem is that many approaches are borrowed from product marketing and applied to coaching without a second thought. As coaches and supervisors, we work in a very different space to products and other types of services.

Our work impacts people's minds, bodies and spirits. We have different ethical responsibilities and professional standards. I struggled for a long time to find something I resonated with in terms of content and delivery, until I found "Building a Story Brand" by Donald Miller. He is balanced, grounded, clear and provides information on a number of approaches to your marketing channels. I'd love to hear what you think.

Making the Most of Your Ingredients in Lockdown

For many, the modern world has worked well enough that you can shop for food as you need it. A 21-day lockdown poses some challenges in preserving food for that duration, as does the risk of infection if you do go shopping. Unexpectedly (yes, its true!) I ended up with 36 eggs, which I am not going to eat fresh and survive!

One food I love making is any form of pasta. There are so many variations and they almost all allow you to prepare fresh ingredients, freeze them and put them together in a lasagne, tagliatelle or other family favourite when desired. Check out this video on making your own pasta and freezing it. Now you know what to do with extra eggs!

Here is my own pasta recipe, you can substitute a combination or rye and rice flour if desired.

200g white flour
Pinch of salt
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1tbsp olive oil

Mix it all together with your hands until you have a stiff dough. Add a little water or flour if necessary. Its right when it does not stick in the machine and rolls easily. Play with the ingredients and have fun! Its a great family activity!
