The Faith Journey Continues...

Why Pray?
by Henri Nouwen

Why should I spend an hour in prayer when I do nothing during that time but think about people I am angry with, people who are angry with me, books I should read, and books I should write, and thousands of other silly things that happen to grab my mind for a moment?
The answer is: because God is greater than my mind and my heart and what is really happening in the house of prayer is not measurable in terms of human success and failure.

What I must do first of all is to be faithful. If I believe that the first commandment is to love God with my whole heart, mind, and soul, then I should at least be able to spend one hour a day with nobody else but God. The question as to whether it is helpful, useful, practical, or fruitful is completely irrelevant, since the only reason to love is love itself. Everything else is secondary.

The remarkable thing, however, is that sitting in the presence of God for one hour each morning?day after day, week after week, month after month?in total confusion and with myriad distractions radically changes my life. God, who loves me so much that he sent his only son not to condemn me but to save me, does not leave me waiting in the dark too long. I might think that each hour is useless, but after thirty or sixty or ninety such useless hours, I gradually realize that I was not as alone as I thought; a very small, gentle voice has been speaking to me far beyond my noisy place.

So, be confident and trust in the Lord.

Pastor Cho's Thanksgiving Letter to the Congregation

Sisters and brothers in Christ,

Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord (1 Timothy 1:2b) to you and your family.

Thanksgiving weekend is around the corner.  It is a time to count blessings and give thanks to our God, whose everlasting love is with us and in us.  To mention a few of my thanksgivings: we have been joining together in the middle and in spite of the Covid 19 pandemic to worship via zoom (since Sunday, March 15) and in person (since Sunday, September 13), we have been praying in the morning (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 8 am) and we have been reading a chapter of the Bible daily.  How about you?  What thanksgiving do you like to offer to the Lord?  “Give thanks in all circumstances: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Last Sunday, November 22, was our Commitment Sunday for the 2021 mission and ministry of Fairfield Grace.  Uncertainty is around us and before us but “we walk by faith not by sight”.  (2 Corinthian 5:7) Pray and take a courageous and bold and confident step with me that we may keep on doing the will of God for the glory of God.

We are not a big faith community in number and in finances, but a great small community of faith filled with love and friendship in Christ.  “Live as children of light … Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord.” (Ephesians 5:8b-10)   “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” (Matt 5:13)   Let us keep our light shining with joy and thanksgiving.

See you Sunday.

Advent Study
God Came Near
Nest Session:
Thurs, Dec 3

at 7:00 pm via Zoom

Adult Education team announces an Advent Study on Thursday nights at 7:00 pm via Zoom.  The meetings will be based on RightNow Media's video God Came Near by Max Lucado.  There will be a short discussion following the video.  Dates are Dec 3, 10 and 17.

In the midst of the gloom of winter, the darkest and coldest of seasons, Christians still wait with great anticipation for the happiest season of all, Advent. Travel back in time and relive the coming of Christ to Earth, as He gives up His throne next to God the Father to enter this world as a baby born in a manger. Filmed at England's beautiful Blockley Church, join acclaimed author and pastor Max Lucado as he provides insights on the season of Advent.

Please scroll down in this email if you have not visited the RightNow Media collection for a link which will take you to the site.  Once there, you can explore the thousands of videos and resources available to you.
