Community Update: October 2022

"We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community . . . Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and our own."
- Cesar Chavez

MT. VERNON MANOR UPDATES:

Save Our Mantua Haverford Community Center

Did you know that a real estate developer wants to demolish the Mantua Haverford Community Center to build nearly 200 apartments?

What can you do to help?
Look out for updates from Mt. Vernon Manor and Mantua Civic Association about an RCO meeting.   Once MCA receives information about this project, meeting details will be shared with the public.

Anyone interested in hearing about the proposed destruction of the MHCC or sharing their voice in opposition to the project are highly encouraged to attend this meeting.

Stephanie's personal motto is to "know a little about a lot," and has held teaching positions at several colleges teaching courses in victimology, constitutional law, and non-profit management. Stephanie looks forward to serving the Powelton Village, Mantua, and East Parkside neighborhoods in her new role.

Mantua Urban Peace Garden
The City of Philadelphia is transferring the Mantua Urban Peace Garden to Mt. Vernon Manor. Once the City of Philadelphia conveys this land to us, Mt. Vernon Manor will transfer the MUPG into the West Philadelphia Land Trust to protect it from the possibility of private real estate development. In collaboration with long-time gardeners and MUPG leaders, we will ensure that the Mantua Urban Peace Garden remains in the hands of our community. You can find more information about the Mantua Urban Peace Garden on our website here.
