Israel Just Decriminalized Cannabis!
Tel Aviv, January 26, 2017…iCAN: Israel-Cannabis and CannaTech welcomes today's announcement about decriminalization of cannabis in Israel. iCAN co-founder Saul Kaye said, “This change will significantly increase entrepreneurship and investment into cannabis in Israel as the old stigma of criminal cannabis disappears. We congratulate and thank MK Sharren Haskel and the many others who helped support this great effort that will no longer label over 1 million Israeli citizens criminals.”
Earlier this week Israel’s Ministry of Justice recommended that cannabis use not be prosecuted criminally, but instead fined or punished by administrative sanctions. Today, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said that he supports the decriminalization of cannabis use adopting the conclusions of a panel he tasked with reviewing the matter.
The new policy still requires the cabinet's approval as coordination with other government ministries is necessary to complete the move. The Cabinet decision is expected to be positive.
