We are... Positive, Achieving, Working Hard, and Safe

Congratulations to Mrs. McGuirk's and Ms. Pennell's kindergarten classes for earning 200 PAWS!

Third grade went on a field trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science this week. Students experienced exhibits about the human body, rocks and minerals, extreme mammals, and many more. All the the students had a great time. Thank you to all the parents who joined us on the field trip!
From the Health Office:

1. Just a friendly reminder that if a student has a temperature of over 100.0, our policy is that they can come back to school 24 hours after the temperature reduces to under 100.0- without the use of fever reducing medications.

2. This is a good time of year to remind students about good hygiene.  Please remind them to
  • Cough or sneeze into elbow.
  • Wash hands with soap and warm water after blowing nose, going to the bathroom, sneezing into it, etc. Hand sanitizers are ineffective against some illnesses; wash hands frequently.
  • Do not share water bottles or food and limit touching other’s belongings
3. Currently we have no known cases of lice, but it is always a good reminder to not share coats, hats, brushes, or hair accessories.  It is better to have students leave their stuffed animals, blankets, and pillows at home.  Please check your child's hair frequently for nits (eggs that are attached to the hair shaft) and live lice.

4. Donations we could use for the health office this winter:
  • New, unused underwear still in packaging - any size
  • Used girls' medium and large pants
  • Used boys' large pants
  • Used boy or girl shoes - any size (no sandals or flipflops)

Thank you and feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns!

It is time to start getting ready for the Black Rock Elementary Spelling Bee!

The first round of the Spelling Bee will be a written spelling test. Third, fourth, and fifth graders will take the test with their classroom teacher during the week of January 2 through 6. Kindergarten, first, and second graders who wish to take the pre test will be given the opportunity to test at
8:15am Thursday, January 5 in Ms. LeDoux’s portable. Students who correctly spell 21 words out of 25 will move on to the final round of the Spelling Bee. All students will be given the same first round test supplied by the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
The final round will be a traditional Spelling Bee held after school on January 31. The winner of our school’s Spelling Bee will go on to the Scripps Colorado State Spelling Bee in March. The practice words have been included so that your student may start studying.
