Will Strategic Global Management Buy Seton Coastside Medical Center?

ARTICLE.  The national health care crisis hit close to home today, Friday, 8/30/19, at a hearing considering the sale of Seton Medical Center and Seton Medical Center Coastside to Strategic Global Management (SGM) at the Mavericks Event Center.

SGM’s purchase of the two hospitals (and others in San Francisco and LA) will only be agreed to if the Attorney General (AG) of the State of California agrees to change the terms of the 2015 purchase agreement from the Daughters of Charity to the current operator, Verity Health Systems, which is now bankrupt.

Interview with Sean McPhetridge, CUSD’s New Superintendent

PODCAST. Meet Sean. Grew up in So-Cal. Has taught at every level in education. He also worked in the prison system in his early years. He loves a challenge. He comes from Alameda, which compared to Oakland and Piedmont, is also a district with lower funding. He speaks Spanish and wanted to come to the Coastside because he sees CUSD, with 51% Latino population, as representative of the whole state of California.

World Surf League Drops Mavericks From its Big Wave Series

The holding period for the Jaws Big Wave World Championships at Pe’ahi and the Nazaré Tow Challenge will open on November 1, 2019, and run through March 31, 2020. Mavericks will not continue as a WSL Big Wave event due to various logistical challenges, as well as the inability to run the event the last two seasons. That said, the Strike Mission series and the Big Wave Awards will very likely feature Mavericks content.

Coastside Hike and Bike Trail Links, Maps and Etiquette

Shared trails etiquette can ensure a pleasant time for all.

  1. Equestrians have trails right of way at all times….hikers-runners-cyclists slow ,stop and ask in a calm voice when-whether it’s ok to proceed, follow rider instructions to the letter.
If in doubt err on the side of caution-stop and calmly ask!
  2. When you encounter a horse on a single track trail. Please stand on the lower side. Please avoid standing on the upper side as this may spook the horse.
  3. Equestrians when coming up to a single track look ahead and you see folks hiking or riding bikes wait for them to clear the trail before you go.
  4. Equestrians when going down hill and see you a bike coming up please let them have the right a way.
  5. Headphone users- 1 ear open at all times when using earbuds, hearing courtesy voice or bells from approaching runners or riders is important to avoid startled surprises.
  6. Mt Bike riders, please recreate on Pacifica trails with complete anticipation-awareness of encountering Horse-Hiker-Runners around every turn at any-all times(slow down-skids are for kids).
  7. Mt Bike riders, Handlebar bells are highly recommended for courtesy headsup, not “Coming Through”.
  8. See trash? Pick it up or report it on this page and/or the ph#’s below if in copious pile.

Bedtime Stories ~ Harold and the Purple Crayon

PODCAST. “Harold and the Purple Crayon was one of my favorite books as a kid. I loved the idea of creating your own world. Something I think is really important today. Create the world you want to see and be the person you would want to be friends with.” Patty Sherin 10/24/17.

Artist and native New Yorker, Patty Sherin has had a passion for colors, patterns and the creativity that comes with using your hands to create beautiful, engaging pieces people of all ages can enjoy.

What began as a hobby when her grandmother taught her to crochet at just 10 years old, quickly grew into her life’s ambition as she grew older.
