Mayor Brownstone Reaches Out to the Community on January 6th, 2021

PRESS RELEASE.

Many of us have spent today following the troubling images and news reports emanating from our nation’s Capital. Once again this past year, we find ourselves navigating our way through multiple once-in-a-lifetime challenges.
Despite the weight of so many simultaneous challenges and events, I remain optimistic. I remain optimistic and confident because I live in Half Moon Bay. I am confident that we live in a proud and resilient community that continues to come together in the face of adversity.

We are a thoughtful community; most often characterized by our individual and collective efforts to support our neighbors during trying times. We are a community that cherishes our democratic freedoms and we believe in decency and respect for a range of differing points of view.

Half Moon Bay History Revealed Through Glass and A Basic Guide to Bottle Age Identification

PHOTO-ESSAY. Written by Jo Fry of the Half Moon Bay History Association 12/2020.

Visit the Half Moon Bay Jail Museum and one of the first displays to greet you are bottles – glass in a variety of heights, shapes and colors that at first glance look no different from what you can buy today at Cunha’s. Look closer, however, and you’ll notice odd differences: advertising embossed up the side for a curious cure that the FDA would surely never approve of, glass in a blushing lavender hue, a warning not to refill, even one that can’t stand up.

Ocean Shore Railroad History by the Pacifica Historical and Ocean Shore Railroad Societies

ESSAY. Much of Pacifica’s layout owes its beginnings to a small, little-known railroad company. Incorporated in 1906, the Ocean Shore Railway Company planned to run a high-speed electric railway between San Francisco and Santa Cruz. To attract weekend excursions and tourists, the route would hug the shoreline as closely as possible. That decision was probably its undoing. As part of California’s coastal history, this rail car brings the City of Pacifica a tangible link to its history.  Car #1409 was the last purchased by the Ocean Shore Railroad, and ran on rails from San Francisco through Daly City to the coastal towns of Pacifica, Montara, Moss Beach, Princeton, Granada, Half Moon Bay and beyond with connections to Santa Cruz.

E-Bike Use on Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (MROSD) Trails Evolves

PRESS RELEASE.

E-Bike Updates: Paved Pilot Underway; Unpaved Pilot Discussion

In December we launched our pilot project at Ravenswood Preserve and Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve and County Park, allowing class 1 and class 2 e-bikes on select paved and improved trails where bicycles are currently allowed. A proposed pilot for class 1 e-bikes on select unpaved trails was postponed until next fiscal year (July 2021 – June 2022) due to the staff resources required for COVID-19 response.

At a public meeting on January 20, the board of directors will discuss whether or not the unpaved pilot proposal will remain on this timeline or start sooner, which may require shifting resources from the paved pilot.                   ~ From the MROSD E-News
