Coastal Butterfly Avoids Death and Major Injury During Surfer’s Beach Bizarre Attack by Redwood City Man

OWN VOICE.  The Half Moon Bay Review posted online on Wednesday, May 12th, 2021:

Man arrested in unprovoked attack near Surfer’s Beach

Well, that was me.  As bizarre as the event was, what is more bizarre is that me and my bike, Rosie, walked away mostly unscathed (I needed to have her rear brake bled, but not even a scratch!; the rear rack took the brunt). I should have been killed.

… slowly….  We’re finally finding out just how many people REALLY died from COVID-19.  Political factors have led to cover-ups in New Yorkmis-reporting in Florida, and mis-classifications in AlabamaTexas and elsewhere.  But it’s a lot harder to hide actual bodies, and now we have a  better count of them.U.S. with newly disclosed Excess Deaths

A Fresh Start for Treating Mental Illness: County Breaks Ground on New Facility with a Focus on Wellness, Recovery

PRESS RELEASE.   The County of San Mateo is building a campus where adults experiencing a severe mental illness can receive care in setting that feels more residential than institutional.

This new campus will replace a concrete colossus that first housed tuberculosis patients during the Truman Administration. The design — small-scale buildings, open-air courtyards and communal spaces — reflects advances in treatment with a focus on recovery and well-being.

On April 12, 2021, advocates for the mentally ill, treatment providers and local officials celebrated the groundbreaking for the new $105 million Cordilleras Mental Health Center, located on 20 acres of unincorporated land between San Carlos and Redwood City. When it opens in 2023, it will replace the current facility that opened in 1952 as a tuberculosis hospital and transitioned to a mental health facility in the 1970s.

Reimagine SamTrans Reaches Out to the Coastside ~ Would An “On Demand” Service Work Best?

The SamTrans Planning department is working on a comprehensive operational analysis of the SamTrans bus routes called Reimagine SamTrans.
The goal is to develop a transportation system that best meets the public transit and mobility needs of San Mateo County.

The Planning department has developed several transportation alternatives and is now seeking public input.   They will then refine the alternatives and come back to the community for additional public input.

When we discussed the Reimagine SamTrans plan at an earlier Coastside meeting, the group had a lot of good comments. One alternative in Reimagine SamTrans includes a possible “on demand” service on the Coastside.

County CHIPPER PROGRAM Back in Mid-May 2021 for El Granada, Moss Beach and Montara

GET READY!  Mon May 17 - Thu May 20

EVENT. Last year, in 2020, the community chipping program was yet another tremendous success due to the support of the community, San Mateo County Fire Safe Council, The Resource Conservation District and volunteers who helped staff the event.

The combined effort removed almost 800 loads of brush from the yards of residents throughout our community.

The Neighborhood Chipper Program is based on a “you cut, we chip” model. If a fire were to impact our community these efforts would help firefighters better defend our homes and our community.
