How Census 2020 Data Works in San Mateo County

NO Citizenship Question on Census 2020.

Only 10 questions. Only recording data as statistics.

Census workers take an oath for life to never share census data. If they share there is a $250,000 fine and jail time.

Federal funding and redistricting is all determined by the 2020 census.

Fill out census form online, otherwise census workers will need go door to door.

The 2020 Census is under funded. There will be few follow-up census, so online survey is being encouraged.  88%  of San Mateo county os moving to online. Paper version can be requested.

You will be able to vote at the Half Moon Bay Library.

Johnston House Trail and Class One Trail Planned to Connect Main Street

VIDEO. Letter of non-binding intent on Johnston House public access project. Three jurisdictions exchange easements. What do they get?  What do we get?

  • Midpeninsula Regional Open Space, with 644 acres, will get to create a nature trail. What views!
  • POST will get farmer access and land zoned as agriculture forever.
  • City gets access to a Class One Bike/Ped trail to the Johnston property from Main Street.

10 Jurisdictions AGREE to the Bay to Sea Trail Letter of Intent

VIDEO. Historic push to create this Bay to Sea Trail.

The Johnston House to Main Street segment, which was just agreed to by the City of HMB, Peninsula Open Space Trust(POST) and Midpeninsula Open Space Trust (MROSD), will now be the last segment of the Bay to Coast Trail.  What a coincidence.

Recology Zero Rate Increase and Zero Recycle Load Rejection

Recology Zero Rate Increase

How did they do it? HINT: Commercial side balances out residential (Pillar Point Harbor).  Chris also has drivers driving trucks to San Jose at 3:30 in the am, to avoid traffic. Zero rejections save $50/ton. 7,000 tons last year = $350,000 in savings.

Zero Recycle Load Rejection

Used to earn $35/ton, now paying $20/ton to secondary market ($70/ton if your load is rejected). The Chinese Silver Sword requires a very low contamination rate. 7,000 tons of clean recycling, last year.

Keep up the good work Coastsiders!

47% of US Homeless Live in California; California is 12% of US Population

VIDEO. Sad statistic from San Mateo County Supervisor Horsely.

Here are some more tidbits:

  • San Mateo County’s average rent for a 2 bedroom apartment is $3,000.
  • 20% of prisoners has mental health issues. New Risk Assessment process will help ID those ready to go back to general population, rather than staying in jail. It will reduce cost and encourage better efficacy.
  • Supervisor Horsely is working with Abundant Grace’s Eric DeBode to help the homeless on the coast.
  • San Mateo has created a 30 bed section for women only, to reduce assault.

Bedtime Stories ~ When Dinos Came With Everything!

NOW A VIDEO!! / PODCAST.  Winnie the Pooh is such a wonderfully, upbeat and resilient character.

This Honey Tree story has an interesting genealogy. Originally, A.A. Milne wrote it in 1926, and it was published by E.P. Dutton & Co..  And Disney turned several of the original stories into an animated featurette in 1966. By 1974 Disney partnered with Little Golden Books. Bob Totten adapted the original text for this version of the story.  Pictures were created by Disney Studio. Sort of a Disney Flip book.

Pooh tries to get his honey. He observes, assesses, acts, pivots and reassesses. He is such a smart bear. And Christopher Robins (A.A. Milne’s son!) is such a smart and kind boy.
