Coastside Buzz ~ Who Are We!?
VIDEO / ESSAY.  The Guttenberg Moment ~ A New Form of Journalism.   Enjoy another chillaxing video from Dom Padua.  Thanks Dom. Stay tuned!

In 1440 Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press. He printed the 42-line Gutenberg Bible in 1455. In 1517  Martin Luther translated the Latin Bible into everyday German. He then printed the Lutheran Bible, challenging the Pope’s supremacy.  He wanted to get back to the basics, back to the words of the bible, in the name of Protestant Reformation. Prior to this, the only people who could communicate in writing, were Catholic Priest-Scribes. Finally, with a press, a human being was able to express themself directly to their audience, in their own voice and in their own words.

Coastal Aquatic Fitness

Welcome to Coastal Aquatic Fitness! Founders Sabrina & Heather met as swim instructors at La Petite Baleen Swim School, in Half Moon Bay.

Sabrina and Heather recognized the need for aquatic-based fitness programs for adults on the Coastside…and CAF was born! We are so proud to introduce our first fitness program, Acquapole!

Acquapole was developed in Italy in 2010. This amazing workout will allow you to super-train yourself in the water while having fun & listening to great music!

The buoyancy of your body weight in the water helps the execution of the strength training exercises without burdening the joints. In all of the many different exercises & grips, even the isometric hold, the abdominals are essential for the correct execution of all of the positions. All through the workout, the muscles in the legs & arms are involved.

HMB History Assoc. Jail Museum

The HMB History Association has opened a small museum in the historic HMB Jail to be able to share and celebrate Coastside History, while the larger Johnston Barn Museum work progresses. As part of the initiative, we have trained volunteer docents  to educate museum visitors.

Come by and learn about the Spanish Land Grant Era, Bootlegging and Prohibition, Maritime History, the Ohlone Indians, the various immigrant communities who settled the Coastside, prominent historic buildings in town and the stories behind those who built them… and much more!

BEDTIME STORIES

Bedtime Stories ~ The Tale of Peter Rabbit

PODCAST. Peter Rabbit made his first appearance in 1902 in The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Peter disobeys Josephine’s orders and sneaks into Mr. McGregor’s garden, eating as many vegetables as he can before Mr. McGregor spots him and chases him about. Peter manages to escape, but not before losing his jacket and shoes, which Mr. McGregor uses to dress a scarecrow. Peter returns home weary, ill, and naked and is put to bed with a dose of chamomile tea.

The rabbits in Potter’s stories are anthropomorphic and wear human clothes: Peter wears a jacket and shoes. Peter, his widowed mother, Mrs. Josephine Rabbit, as well as his sisters, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail live in a rabbit hole that has a human kitchen, human furniture, as well as a shop where Josephine sells various items. Peter’s relatives are Cousin Benjamin Bunny and Benjamin’s father Mr. Bouncer Bunny.

Peter Rabbit was named after a pet rabbit whom Beatrix Potter had as a child, and whom she called Peter Piper. The first Peter Rabbit story, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, was originally created in 1893 as a letter to Noel Moore, the five-year-old son of Potter’s former governess, Annie Moore. The boy was ill and Potter wrote him a picture and story letter to help him pass the time and to cheer him up. The letter included sketches illustrating the narrative.
