Fun Times on the Coastside this Saturday!
Michael Ahern kicking off Relay for Life 2017
this Saturday at 2:00 at the OPL.
Mark your Calendar for June 3-4, 2017

The event is hosted by Surfrider Foundation, San Mateo Chapter and includes commentary by Ed and Mary Larenas of Surfrider foundation, Sabrina Brennen, advocate for equity in women’s surfing, and director Dayla Soul.

Everyone is welcome to join us for a screening of this remarkable film, about some very remarkable women. This film challenges the “bikini-clad, surfer girl” image and shows what it's really like for the women who charge big waves including at Maverick’s. It Ain't Pretty is not just a film, but a community movement. The film is a documentary about the challenges and triumphs of female big wave surfers fighting sexism in the water, in competition, in the media and in the surf industry. Featuring Ocean Beach surfer and world-class big wave charger, Bianca Valenti, and including interviews with top female athletes with awe-inspiring big wave surf footage filmed in the icy waters of Ocean Beach, San Francisco and Mavericks, Half Moon Bay — one of the biggest waves on the planet.

Please join us for an evening of inspiration and hope. Let’s all help to empower a new generation of girls to live their dreams and overcome the challenges they face along the way.

This four-session community academy provides an overview of the management and governance of Half Moon Bay, while helping to build relationships that will strengthen our entire community. The program will take place each Wednesday evening, March 1 through March 22, from 6 – 9 pm.

Participants must commit to attending all four sessions.

At each session, participants will engage in interesting and fun activities illustrating how the City functions, and will meet and talk to City staff members. All City departments and functions will be covered during the NET program.

This program presents a great opportunity for interested community members to get an insider’s view of the City, become more knowledgeable about how the City operates, and help to build and strengthen the bonds and relationships that make a great community.

The objectives of NET are to involve and engage people in learning about and understanding the operation of City government, and to improve communication between the City and those who live and work here. Participants will learn about how decisions are made, how City funds are allocated, and how City departments operate with each other, and get an opportunity to sit down with City Council members for frank discussions of issues, projects, politics, and plans for shaping the future of our community.
