Montara Water Approves the Big Wave Subdivision Agreement Phase 1

The CDP as written and amended, requires Big Wave to obtain water service for domestic and fire protection from the District.

The Subdivision Agreement for Phase I includes improvements required to provide the Big Wave development on the north parcel with the fire service per the Fire District requirements. The improvements include a 12-inch-diameter water main extension from the District’s Alta Vista Zone to the Big Wave north parcel.

Other improvements required by the CDP and for the development of the project will be included at a future date in the Phase II agreement that would require a separate authorization by the MWSD Board.

Jim Sullivan and Friends Patrol the Green Valley Trail ~ Know Where That Is?

PHOTO-ESSAY. Labor Day Jim met me at the Grey Whale Cove Upper Parking lot to take me on me the 1 mile (one way) Green Valley Hike.

“The future Green Valley Trail begins in the southern parking area of the Devil’s Slide Trail, just south of the Devil’s Slide Tunnels in Pacifica. The trail crosses Highway 1 at the stoplight and then extends south along the eastern shoulder of Highway 1. The trail travels eastward along the north side of the Green Valley and south across Green Valley Creek before connecting to an existing California State Park service road within McNee Ranch that ultimately connects to the Gray Whale Cove State Beach parking lot.

Our Land Grants-And the Coastside’s Mexican Years

Dear Friends,

I wanted to let you know that I will be doing the history presentation for the next Half Moon Bay History Association meeting

It is about the land that almost every one of us on the Coastside calls our own home – – Those early land grants that became the properties for the houses, apartments and shops from Montara through Half Moon Bay.   Presenter:  Dave Cresson – Local history enthusiast.

Come hear about the Coastside’s years under a Mexican government and how today’s private property came to become our wonderful community. The grants were part of a larger process of patriotism, ambition, conflict and optimism.

The Wreck of the Glenesslin: Insurance Fraud, or Just Drunken Incompetence?

Don Best, a photographer and historian working out of nearby Rockaway Beach suspects that the Glenesslin incident was staged to collect the insurance money. It’s not a new theory, but it’s never been proved. In a phone interview with the Oceanscape Network, Best said that sailing ships like the Glenesslin were fast becoming obsolete during the early twentieth century and an insurance settlement would surely bring in more money than simply selling off an antiquated vessel.

HAM Radio Operators and Neighbors ~ The CARLA Repeater Reaches Montara to HMB

Our awareness of the C.A.R.L.A. repeater system is a case of pure Serendipity. Within the span of one week, three HMB HAMs became aware of the CARLA system. Two of us were discussing it over the TOW repeaterMike Herbert (WB6JKV) popped into our conversation saying he did a lot of the rework on the CARLA transmitter up on Montara Mountain right next to the TOW repeater. He is the current moderator for that repeater. I wrote an email to him asking if our club could use it for Club Nets and event traffic. He replied we could at no charge. Mike does a lot of technical work with the major networks.  ~ Lee Copland HAM Radio Operator

CERT Field Operating Guide is Great for Triage ~ Buy One for Your CERT Bag
