Re-Creating Bo Peep for Toy Story 4: A Journey Alongside Team Bo

In Toy Story 4, audiences rediscover Bo Peep, who returns after nearly 20 years away from the big screen.

In adapting her design, we considered not only the cultural context of reviving one of our industry’s first female characters, informing our story and design, but also the technology now available.

This talk describes Bo Peep’s journey through production: from initial research into decades-old reference and visualization, to the modern results and strides we’ve taken across both creative and technical specialties.

Did You Know There is a Road From El Granada Blvd. to Milbrae?

The Road to El Granada. Hmmmm.

As the crow flies, Millbrae, California, which sits on the bay side of the northern San Francisco Peninsula, is roughly eight miles from the town of El Granada, which sits on the Pacific. To drive from Millbrae to El Granada, however, depending on which route you choose, and how much you like to meander, will take you between twenty and twenty five miles, but that was not always the case. When the first roads on the Peninsula were built, most of which are still in use, there was a road that made a near beeline from Millbrae due southwest to El Granada. It still exists today.

It might provide an opportunity for an empty nester to make some additional income. It might provide a student or teacher with a chance to live near where they work or learn. Many are considering the possibilities and benefits.

Kelly Avenue Drain Improvement and Re-Striping Projects

In September of 2019 construction started at Kelly Avenue and Highway 1 to address the flooding of this intersection and along Kelly Avenue (west of Highway 1). The project increased storm water retention capacity along the east side of Highway 1 to north of the intersection and tied into an existing stormwater outfall to Pilarcitos Creek. Construction on this project was completed in January of 2020. The first few storms have tested the improvements and we’re happy to report that there has been no flooding in the area! City Council will be formally accepting the project as complete at the January 21 Council meeting.

On January 6, Kelly Avenue was re-striped to correct the lane width of Kelly Avenue from Main St. to Church St. With the re-striping, this provides a minimum of 11′ width for each travel lane and addresses safety concerns with the diagonal parking along this corridor. 12 diagonal parking stalls were converted to 8 parallel parking stalls on the south side of Kelly
