MCC Elections, 3 Vacancies, Filing Open 7/13 to 8/7/2020

ELECTION. There are 3 vacancies. Dan Haggerty (terms out) and Barbra Matthewson (not running for re-election) and one vacancy that has been open for a while.

Filing opens on July 13th, and ends August 7th.

Meetings are remote, now and it is so much easier to participate, so please consider running.

Supervisors Direct LAFCo to Review the San Mateo Harbor District

VIDEO.  “The County BOS (Board of Supervisors, San Mateo County), on May 19, 2020, voted 5/0 to request LAFCo to conduct a Municipal Service Review of the Harbor District.

As a result, LAFCo agreed and it is our understanding they will conduct a Municipal Service Review this fall.”

Hi Neighbors - I chair the Granada Community Services District Parks Advisory Committee. GCSD has had three public outreach efforts over the last two years to gather community input on features and landscape design for a new Park on the Burnham Strip, along the west side of Obispo Road. The Preliminary Plan is now ready for the next round of community review and feedback, before it is submitted to SM County to begin the formal review process. Why Did San Mateo Deny the Appeal to Allow the Historic 1868 Purissima Cemetery?

 

According to Ed Bixby:    The Purissima cemetery was created was 1868, to serve the now disappeared town of Purissima and its land use and operations have been in good standing with the State of California the whole time. It is still owned by The Purissima Association and the original deed is still in full effect. It has not changed in size or purpose, either. Further, the State of California has recognized that the cemetery is operating legally. State of California Cemetary Board did an investigation and found the 5 acre cemetery was legal. The State told the County.

NOTICE.  The Elections Division for San Mateo County has begun hiring Vote Center Representatives for November’s election. Wages start at $21.02 and bilingual applicants are strongly encouraged to apply!

You can apply for this position at https://www.smcacre.org/election-vcr.

Ideal candidates will have a minimum of one year of general clerical, office assistant, phone services or computer experience, and a close attention to detail. Vote Center hours are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily during the period of operation, including weekends and holidays, and 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Election Day. These positions may require evening work assignments.

City of Half Moon Bay’s $30,000 Relief Aid Funding Helps Non-Profit Coastside Crisis Fund to Bring Nearly $300,000 to Struggling Families

ANNOUNCEMENT.

Half Moon Bay, CA – With some funding assistance from the City of Half Moon Bay, the Coastside Crisis Fund (CCF) has raised over $300,000 in relief aid for struggling families in the Half Moon Bay area impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Donate to Coastside Crisis Fund (CCF)

So far, CCF has disbursed $278,000 to 165 families in need, and has announced it is reenergizing its fundraising efforts as it pursues the goal of $500,000 in donations by the end of July.

Coastal Arts League Presents 12 Peninsula Camera Club Photographers

Nature photographer Bruce Finocchio is a master when it comes to capturing exquisite photos of birds and other wildlife. He totes a pro camera with a long and heavy telephoto lens. At his rural ranch, Bruce has set up several camouflaged bird blinds near a pond on his property. Hidden inside, he watches a parade of birds arrive at the pond. 

The Coastal Arts League has at last reopened her doors. During the last four months we have had a steep learning curve, learning how to post our exhibits in an online gallery. Visitors to the gallery will find that we have implemented a social distancing plan.

Now that California has added art galleries to the list of businesses that may re-open, we are delighted to announce that new exhibitions will open on Friday, July 10, 1–5pm.

During the opening and for all gallery visits thereafter, safety protocols for the health and well-being of visitors, volunteers, and staff will include physical distancing and limiting the number of people in the galleries; a short wait outside may therefore be required.

We are delighted to welcome back to our East Gallery the Loom & Shuttle Guild, presenting 20/20: Woven Visions, an exhibition of handcrafted and handwoven textile artworks.

2020 Summer Youth Sailing Camp at the Half Moon Bay Yacht Club

Learn to sail! This is a safe and fun way for youth ages 8-16 to learn how to sail in either an Optimist (Opti) or Laser. Both boats are extremely popular recreational dinghies that also feature prominently in competition. Most certainly STEM! (science, technology, engineering, and math).
