Ohlone-Portola’ Heritage Day @ Pacifica Community Center

El Granada Emergency Preparedness Event:

Sat. 11/9 @ EG Fire Station

We will have a bunch of ‘stations’ about preparedness along with maps of EG and the evacuation routes for fire and Tsumani’s and the Quarry Park Fuel Reduction update. In addition to that we will also have the fire truck ladder up and the fire pan demonstration going. It should make for a fun day! We’ll also have games, food, raffles and prizes!

Speakeasy Night Fundraiser for Pacifican Cares!

On November 2nd we will transform the Pacifica Community Center into a lively “speakeasy” as all of Pacifica goes back in time to Bootlegger Days! The evening will feature live music by The Nichols Band, light snacks and desserts, a “Speakeasy Special” cocktail, a Selfie Station, the famous Truffle Chocolate Bar that gives great prizes to all who participate, a live and silent auction with trips, mountain cabin getaways, gift certificates and fabulous gift baskets, and much more “roaring” fun!

Last year we raised over $30,000 for Pacifica’s social service agencies, who benefit from the event every year. They are Pacifica Senior Center, Pacifica Child Care Services, Pacifica Resource Center, and the Pacifica Youth Service Bureau.

Did San Mateo County Unintentionally Incentivize Coastside Bay City Flower to Sell to Cannbis/Hemp?

PHOTO-ESSAY. Half Moon Bay Bay City Flower is for sale for $42.5 million. Bay City’s Pescadero property is sale pending for $5,500 million.

Has the county cannabis ordinance has incentivized coastside property owners to sell at inflated prices?

Robert Brownstone, of the City Council for City of Half Moon Bay, at the very end of a very long city council meeting, at almost 11:30pm, 10/15/19, had the presence of mind to ask for someone from San Mateo County to come out and explain their intention with their cannabis ordinance, and respond to the fall-out of 300 local farm workers being fired with little to no warning, or preparation.

Now, the City is willing to advocate to the county on behalf of people who live here.

$300,000 Funding Request From Abundant Grace Workforce Development Center

RECOMMENDATION: Consider $300,000 funding request from Abundant Grace for development of a Workforce Development Center at 515 Kelly Avenue and authorize the City Manager to initiate negotiations on a funding or loan agreement for half ($150,000) of the requested amount contingent on Abundant Grace receiving all necessary permits.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION: Abundant Grace has entered into escrow for the vacant building (former Senior Coastsider Thrift Shop) at 515 Kelly Avenue. Abundant Grace is currently in the process of filing an application for a Coastal Development Permit for approval of a multi-faceted workforce development center. Abundant Grace has requested financial assistance from the City and San Mateo County (County) for purchase, renovation and Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E). City staff believes that this facility could provide assistance to many residents who are in need of training for basic life and work skills.

Coastsiders Resist “The Dunes at Half Moon Bay” Project

VIDEO / LINKS.  An application for “The Dunes at Half Moon Bay” project was submitted to the City on September 20, 2019.  The video comments below were not on the agenda, they were part of public comment.

This private development proposal has not been approved, nor has it gone through the stringent project and environmental review process that precedes consideration of approval. This proposal involves only private property, on land that is located in the Surf Beach / Dunes Beach Planned Development.

The applicant requests City consideration of several discretionary actions including an amendment to the City’s certified Local Coastal Program, a Specific Plan, and a subdivision. Preparation of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) to evaluate the potential environmental effects of the proposed project is required.

One Year Critique of SAM’s (Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside) FOG Program

VIDEO. Annual report from Mark Thomas & Company, Inc. on sewer collections systems cleaning oversight, the Fats, Oils and Greases (FOG) inspection program.

RECOMMENDATION: By motion, accept the annual report from Mark Thomas & Company, Inc. on sewer collections systems cleaning oversight, the Fats, Oils and Greases (FOG) inspection program and related work.

See picture right of years of fats, oils and greases from the Mullins Fairway pipe.  It  is  tricky  controlling  FOG.

FISCAL IMPACT: The FY 2019-20 Operations Budget includes funding for maintenance of the City’s sewer collection system. Maintenance involves a collaborative of City staff and contract services including the Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside (SAM) and Mark Thomas Company.
