What Do You Think of the Plans for a New Bathroom at The Jetty (Surfers’ Beach)?

ARTICLE / PHOTOS. I was riding along on my morning commute and I see some orange netting and stakes outlining a new building at the Jetty (Surfers’Beach).

Later in the morning, I received my weekly City of Half Moon Bay weekly email and…

….Restroom at Pillar Point RV Park  ~ The City of Half Moon Bay’s Planning Commission will conduct a Study Session Tues. Jan. 8th, 7pm at the Emergency Operations Center, 537 Kelly, HMB regarding the location and design alternatives for a proposed public restroom at the Pillar Point RV Park site, near Surfer’s Beach (The Jetty). The owner / applicant for this project is the San Mateo County Harbor District. Keet Nerhan is the owner of the RV Park, and the Oceano Hotel and Mall, and many gas stations in town. Nerhan has a lease with the Harbor District for the RV Park. He does not own the land.  Find out more...

City HMB Highway 1 South Gateway Safety and Landscaping Project

ARTICLES / PHOTOS. What do you think?  The Half Moon Bay Planning Commission will be reviewing the Coastal Development Permit-Architectural Review, for City-initiated landscape improvements near the intersection of Higgins Canyon Road, Main Street, and Cabrillo Highway South (within the public right of way).

The proposed landscaping improvements include: plantings of compatible plant species and trees, creation of minor contours, sidewalk improvements including pedestrian ramps, medians and refuge spaces, stormwater detention, and two new gateway signs.

Project Description: This project will provide operational and safety improvements to Highway 1 between Wavecrest Road and Seymour Street. It also includes construction of a signal at the Higgins Canyon Road, Main Street and Highway 1 intersection, and landscape improvements at the south gateway to Main Street.

Rip Currents 101 ~ Mavericks Big Wave Season

VIDEO. Watch for sneaker waves like the 2010 Mavericks Contest wave. Share these Rip Current videos with your friends who like to go to the Beach.

Local CERT trainer, Michelle Dragony, has curated 3 videos that will bring you up to speed.

If you see someone who is not paying attention, or does not seem to understand the danger, do take the time, to gently nudge them with the fact that at least one person dies every year at our beaches. Sneaker waves are an unanticipated coastal wave that is much greater in force and height than the waves preceding it.

Drowning can happen with one wave.

COASTSIDE BUZZ DIRECTORY

Coastal Aquatic Fitness

Welcome to Coastal Aquatic Fitness! Founders Sabrina & Heather met as swim instructors at La Petite Baleen Swim School, in Half Moon Bay

Sabrina and Heather recognized the need for aquatic-based fitness programs for adults on the Coastside…and CAF was born! We are so proud to introduce our first fitness program, Acquapole!

Acquapole was developed in Italy in 2010. This amazing workout will allow you to super-train yourself in the water while having fun & listening to great music!

The buoyancy of your body weight in the water helps the execution of the strength training exercises without burdening the joints. In all of the many different exercises & grips, even the isometric hold, the abdominals are essential for the correct execution of all of the positions. All through the workout, the muscles in the legs & arms are involved.

Acquapole will shape the abdomen, shoulders, hips & will help improve cardiovascular circulation. Try something new! We hope that you sign up today!
