HMB Planning Study Session for the 20 Year Land Use Plan

The Planning Commission consists of citizen volunteers appointed by the City Council to make decisions or advise the Council on land use and property development issues.

The Commission assures that new development is consistent with our Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance, long-range General Plan and Local Coastal Plan, State laws and other public policies that advance the interests of our community.

Wood Fired PIZZA Class with Mike McGrath @ Seville Tapas

This class covers the ingredients, preparation and baking of true Neapolitan style pizza in a wood fired oven.

No previous experience is required.

The oven we’ll be using is a Valiorani wood fired oven (forno a legna).

The style of pizza you’ll be making is the classic Neapolitan pizza, 14″ in diameter.

By the end of day 1 you’ll have experience mixing dough, portioning and shaping. You’ll also be introduced to the skills needed to place, spin and remove pizza from the oven.

On day 2 you’ll be working with the dough you mixed the previous day.

We’ll also mix whole grain and gluten-free flours, too!

Cabrillo Unified School District’s County Takeover and Pink Slip Process

VIDEO. Sean McPhetridge, CUSD  Superintendent, explains what will happen as the school budget goes into the red, in the next year. Even if the Measure I parcel tax passes (renewing $1.6 million), there will be a $2.4 million shortfall. 84% of budget is personnel.

If the CUSD board does not make enough cuts, the county will take over, the board will be retired, CUSD decisions will be made by San Mateo County Board of Education.

That shortfall approximates the salaries of 20 employees.

In Redwood City, last year, they closed 4 schools.

The Board will have some hard decisions in December.

Yet we will spend $88,000 per prisoner in California, and only $11k for CUSD.

A Review of the Half Moon Bay Review in 1969

PHOTO-ESSAY. Last Thursday, 9/26/19, Comcast was down and I had some free time so I headed down to the Archives of the HMB Review.

I had seen a blurb in the page 2, Historic Headlines, that identified a story in 1969 that might inform why we have a homeless problem today. Low income housing proposal denied citing no jobs as the main argument.

But, the Dolgers were set to build out a $10 million Princeton property buy. They were partnering with Westinghouse. What happened?  Stay tuned!

Update on Caltrans Martini Creek Bypass From Montara Water and Sanitary District

September 2019 Update: Caltrans Martini Creek Bypass Right-of-Way Work

Montara Water and Sanitary District (MWSD) works every day to ensure water, garbage and sewer services for the residents of Montara, Moss Beach, and adjacent areas north of El Granada. Over 6,000 residents rely on our services for their homes and businesses.

Our water – which we each rely on every day for washing, cooking, sanitation, and firefighting – comes from deep local wells and Montara Creek right here on the Coast. The supply is limited and we must protect the watersheds and environment that ensure that supply for all our use.

Reliability, sustainability, and resource protection are at the core of our mission. To serve current and future generations here, we are investigating additional water sources available to the local community. To that end, we have spent several years working with Caltrans’ to examine their Martini Creek Bypass right-of-way in Montara for our community’s water needs, including drilling exploratory wells at the site in 2014.
