VIDEO. Bike lane disappears for about 100 yards. John Doughty, Public Work for City of Half Moon Bay, said this is temporary.
“I wanted to give you a heads-up that we are not satisfied with the current layout and are currently in the process of re-design of construction zone with Caltrans.
This will include a dedicated lane for bicycles and likely detour of vehicles (and bikes) at Main/Higgins Canyon Road. Final design is not complete, but for the safety of all, bicyclist may be routed to Seymour-Main-Higgins Canyon Road for their safety—something we are still discussing. Cannot get into too much detail as we are in process of design. Caltrans seems amenable to the concepts.
Immediate steps taken includes signing the zone for 25 MPH speed limit and placement of a VMS sign at transition point alerting folks of speed change and potential presence of bicyclists. We also relocated barriers to improve line of site at Main/Higgins Canyon and Highway 1.”

PRESS RELEASE. After 20 years in the making, the Big Wave Project, entirely privately funded, is building an “intentional community” that is one of only several in the U.S. ~ November 16, 2020
Half Moon Bay, Calif. – In California, approximately 175,000 adults with special needs live with family members, and they are aging. When their caregivers pass away, where will these vulnerable adults live and who will take care of them? Jeff Peck, co-founder and CEO of Big Wave, thinks the answer to this question should address quality of life as a key part of the equation.
As a parent of an adult with special needs, Peck had a vision of creating opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to live and work outside their parents’ home. After a 20-year effort and raising $25 million funded entirely through private donations and from parents of adult children with special needs, Big Wave has begun construction of a community that will accommodate up to 57 residents by the Fall of 2021.

PRESS RELEASE.
Half Moon Bay, Ca (November 18, 2020) –– Organizers of the Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show today released the following statement regarding the 2021 show:
“Sadly it’s become all too familiar but today we’re sorry beyond words to announce that after careful consideration of on-going COVID conditions plus the significant investment of resources required over many months of planning, and our fiscal responsibilities to the non-profit Coastside Adult Day Health Center, the organizing committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show that was scheduled to be held on April 25 at Half Moon Bay Airport.”

VIDEO. From the Montara Sanitary and Water District meeting 11/5/2020.
This item was brought to the MWSD board on November 5, 2020 at the request of Director Harvey and found a great level of interest with members of the board and public. The Advanced Quantitative Precipitation Information (AQPI) system project found general support with all meeting attendees. High Definition Radar Systems will be installed that will allow for immediate and more granulated weather forecast and observation. This can help water managers and the public in planning efforts.
However, the location of the project exactly on the highest peak in the San Francisco Peninsula, the peak of Montara Mountain, and its destruction in the construction process was criticized.

Skyline Chestnut Orchard is OPEN!

Pick your own chestnuts at this historic orchard! Skyline Chestnuts is a 20-acre orchard sitting at an elevation of about 2,500 feet above Palo Alto in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
The Skyline Chestnut Orchard was originally planted over 100, and perhaps as long as 150 years ago. Shortly after California was acquired by the United States in 1847, a Spanish settler moved up into the mountains where he planted the oldest of the trees growing there today.
