Climate Change Solutions for a Carbon Economy

Climate Change Solutions for a New Carbon Economy: Technologies and Policies for Carbon Removal

The San Mateo County Chapter of
Citizens’ Climate Lobby is presenting a community event on carbon removal as a solution to the climate change crisis. The focus of the presentation will be on how can we build a “new carbon economy” that sequesters more carbon than it emits. This free event will explore the scientific, business, and policy opportunities for transforming carbon from a waste back into a valuable asset that can spark a wave of innovation and economic growth aligned with achieving our climate goals.

Noah Deich, Executive Director of Carbon180, will be the featured speaker. His presentation will touch on these key topics:

  • What is a carbon-negative economy?
  • Why is it important?
  • What is the state of innovative carbon negative pathways today?
  • What is the business and policy landscape?

Doors open at 6:00, the presentation will begin at 6:30 pm. Light refreshments will be provided.

Have You Filled Out the Survey on Potential Carter Park Improvements?

SURVEY. Many people visit John L. Carter Memorial Park (Carter Park) throughout the year to enjoy picnics, music, relaxation, live theater, and family time. Your input is requested as the City explores possible improvements to this park, which is located on Main Street at Stone Pine Road, adjacent to the Stone Pine Shopping Center.

The Half Moon Bay Parks Master Plan identified John L. Carter Memorial Park (Carter Park) as a site with potential to create a more actively utilized space through on-site improvements and enhancements. Currently, Carter Park hosts annual events such as Shakespeare in the Park and the City’s Summer’s End Music Festival. Your feedback will assist City staff in this design phase, which will subsequently be presented for City Council review. Carter Park is located near the entrance to downtown Half Moon Bay on Main Street at Stone Pine Road, adjacent to the Stone Pine Shopping Center.

You’re also invited to attend the Parks and Recreation Commission Public Workshop on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, 6 pm at the Half Moon Bay Library, 620 Correas Street, to see and comment on early design concepts.

Senior Coastsiders Celebrated as the Nonprofit of the Year for the 13th Senate District

SACRAMENTO – Senior Coastsiders was celebrated in the Capitol this week as the Nonprofit of the Year in California’s 13th Senate District.

State Senator Jerry Hill welcomed Senior Coastsiders Executive Director Sandra Winter and Board President Carol Joyce to the Capitol on Wednesday, where the California Association of Nonprofits held a luncheon honoring the organization from the Peninsula as well as the many others selected throughout California by their local legislators.

Operating since 1977, Senior Coastsiders is dedicated to providing resources, support and opportunities for older adults and adults with disabilities. Based in Half Moon Bay and powered by a robust combination of volunteerism, community partnerships and fundraising, the organization serves individuals 55 and older who live in coastside communities from Montara to Pescadero in San Mateo County

“For more than 40 years, Senior Coastsiders has been a mainstay for older adults and adults with disabilities,” said Senator Hill, D-San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. “I’m proud to have selected this community gem as the 13th Senate District’s Nonprofit of the Year for 2019.”
